    BeanScene Magazine - great news.

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    BeanScene Magazine

As mentioned in another thread ( http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1229206233 )

The magazine BeanScene is starting its second life and is now published by John Murphy who has spent many months putting together a great team of Australian coffee people to fill the magazine with interesting content.

Starting with the new managing editior, Steve Agi of *Melbourne Coffee Review fame BeanScene now boasts a list of interesting locals including Instaurator, Emily Oak, David Makin, Lance Brown, Carlo Di Salvatore, Maria Paoli, Con Haralambopoulos, Tina Partsioglou, Luca Costanzo, Ian Callahan, Rita Srblin, Bruno Maiolo, Nathan Wakeford, Ross Quail, Ricky Srblin, Jesse Hyde, Michael Carroll, Scottie Callaghan, Tom Beaumont and some hairy chin bloke from CoffeeSnobs called Andy Freeman.

The magazine will have 6 issues per year and if you subscribe ($40 per year) you will be in the running for a Giotto (from CS Site Sponsors) Espresso Company Australia and $5 from every subscription will go to FairCrack!

    How cool it that! *

A couple of months ago I met with John, Steve and Brad from Prime Creative Media and they were very keen to support FairCrack after following its progress so far on CoffeeSnobs and they were only too happy to chip-in for every subscription.

But wait for the steak knives...

In each BeanScene issue we will have a CoffeeSnobs page that will contain 3 CoffeeSnobs members secretly selected by the moderator team. *The first three have already been submitted to the magazine and will appear in the first issue. *I won’t spill the beans on who they are until the magazine hits the shelves but they are well known to us all.

You can purchase a subscription online via PayPal
    http://www.beanscenemagazine.com.au
or via fax using the PDF below.

This is exciting news for the specialty coffee industry and coffee snobs, fanatics, geeks, lovers etc ......and hopefully it will help educate the masses about raising the bar and enjoying quality coffee.
"life is too short to drink bad coffee"--good luck BeanScene.............................

If not already planned, an article about how Faircrack has helped the Kilimanjaro coffee farmers would be worthwhile.

    Great news Andy,
But how have you managed to fit in time to contribute to the mag you seem to be a very busy man.
Do you have special coffee that slows time down?

Just paid for subscription should be a good read.

As happenstance would have it, I was searching for something else late last night and rean across the website.
I didnt subscribe straight away (I did see the Giotto comp) but bookmarked to go back today.

I also noticed the Faircrack donation - thats brilliant to get more people onboard.

    Great news Andy.

Ive just subscribed. Very handy as I didnt know what to do with that amount I had in my Paypal account that was too small to transfer to my bank account without incurring a fee. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Looking forward to seeing the product in the flesh.

I guess it has been a big day at the subscription office but I think that BeanScene will be well worth it. They really want to produce a great Australian coffee magazine and with our support it will happen.

Im looking forward to reading it too, just not too sure how I would break it to the CSrs if I win the Giotto.

Re: BeanScene Magazine - great news.

Well Im happy to be a subscriber.

I had to find out what readership thye magazine will be trageting but, happily, I fit the description.

I notice there is no mention of how many issues there are per year. Is it going to be a monthly, quarterly or what?

Checking the contributor list, I can guess the sort of material that might be featured. Heres my requests for further articles although I imagine some of these may already be on the list.

I hope Scottie C continues the work he started in his book The Cafe Republic of Australia and writes articles about the various identities behind the coffee/cafe scene.

How-to articles, tips & tricks and even perhaps a reader Q&A (Yes, CS already provides that but not all subscribers will be CSers - well not at first anyway)

Profiles of various coffee regions, world-wide - especially the less well-known ones such as Laos & Vietnam

    Roasting notes

    Articles on restoration projects

Good, I like surprises. Future suggestions will be sent via email. I thought, since you are already here and I was already posting, Id kill two birds with one stone.

My point about the no. of issues per year is that it isnt mentioned anywhere on your website or subscription form.

Ive subscribed, and have decided that in the unlikely event of me winning the Giotto, I will sell/auction off my Silvia and donate anything over $500 to Fair Crack.

Why? well Ive been looking at roasters, and $500 would go a long way towards one, and if I take into account what Id spend on setting up a coretto, the Gene (but Id really like one of Gregs top of the range hotops) would end up costing me $100ish.

If I did win, it would be in three ways, I get a flash new machine and roaster, and Id feel good about Fair Crack getting *a nice donation as well [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

A sponsor would get a sale, Andy would sell more green beans.....

errrrr hang on a sec here guys!!!

I thought it was already decided that Andy was winning and then donating it to me as a pay it forward thingy and then i was going to donate my machine as a pay it forward to someone else??

well ok then if whoever takes my machine would like to donate some funds to Faircrack that is a great idea i am happy to donate some as well when my Giotto arrives courtesy of Andys win :D

SOOOO how many people have subscribed in the hope of winning the Giotto?? ;D

Hey Oonga, I liked your "pay it forward" plan, just tweaked it a bit so that Fair Crack get a nice little bonus as well.

BTW, I decided to subscribe to improve my coffee knowledge, and I did say "in the unlikely event of my winning" *even though I have no expectation of being that lucky.

I think being in a position to allow us to buy what we all (CSers) have, in order to induldge in what is in all honesty, a very enjoyable but self serving hobby is luck enough. *:-[

I remind myself with every cup of coffee that I drink, how lucky I am that I am not one the people who produce these wonderful little beans that we take such pleasure from. Thanks to Andy and Fair Crack we can all make a difference to their lives. *:)

Well I bought 4 subscriptions as "Happy 2009 presents" and I can honestly say that I never subscribed to a magazine sight unseen before but I know this one will be a good read and it is being put together by a team that care about great coffee, not just the "business" of coffee.

Did I subscribe for a crack at the Giotto?
Nah (I already have one), but I do hope that a CSr wins it.

    ;)

...tis only self serving if you dont share your coffee with others.
    :)

    Nicely put though.

Just reading through the BeanScene FaceBook group and looking at the photos - Steve wasnt kidding about Perth getting its fair share this time around, was he?

Looks like every photo there is from Perth, and all of them are Synesso shops too!

Seems all are very excited about the up and coming release.
Im looking forward to the launch at the National Barista Champs on the 28th Jan.
