SCAE 2009 Köln (Cologne) - Around Köln

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight

This is some random shots around the beautiful city of Köln (Cologne) which is dominated by the Dom, as amazing building 600 years in the making and is a great landmark to find your way around the city.

These threads will be mostly a pictorial however I can answer questions and edit in some content later if needed.

The thread on the SCAE competitions is still:

This is the Dom Hotel which more than makes up for the dodgy flight to Germany.

Gotta love landing in a place that is in summer... the Erdberren (strawberries) were a great lunch bought from a street seller on the way to the hotel.

    (sorry kids!)

    :P

Shopping in Cologne is great (if you like shohpping!). Lots of little lanes, with no cars and tons of shops.

not really my cup of tea but I did find one place that I know some little people would like.

I love this city (and as a rule I dont like cities very much). Next to no car traffic means that you wander the cobblestone streets, zigzag where you want and just enjoy the feel of the place.

You would be hard pressed to find a shot that someone didnt have. All the Aussies I have spoken to had the same reastion getting off the train in Köln, gobsmacked at the majesty of the 150 meter gothic building dominating the center of the "old town".

Yeah, that was as much for my family as anyone, tis standard for me to take shots of the whole room so they get an idea of how hard or in this case, how soft Im doing it.

I have stayed in some real fleapits over the years, this is obviously at the otherend of the scale! Funny thing is it was really cheap, booking just a couple of days before arrival meant that you can get the best in town for the same price as something average.

Hey Andy, how did you like the Kölsch beer? Its an ale that should taste like a lager. Ive tried an imported one here, but never a fresh one.

Its very easy to drink, especially with a brewery on every corner!

I agree, great beer in this town (and Im not much of a beer drinker)

Across the courtyard from the picture with the bottle is Fruh. Its a great place and one that has become a meeting place for the Aussies over here. Half a dozen of us had something to eat and a few beers at 10pm last night there and I expect we will meet back again tonight too.
