    Re: Aroma fest

Should be plenty of CSrs and site sponsors there.

Not too sure if Ill be there as it clashes with Paulas birthday and she is way too clever to fall for the "Lets go to Sydney for the weekend" trick.

    8-)

We all should plan to get together at a place and time so those that dont know each other can meet.... how about at 11am at the Barista showcase tent at the northern end of the passenger terminal?

They normaly set one up there and have different baristas scheduled each hour. *Its one of the more interesting coffees you can get at the rocks and much later than 11am and the queues are insane.

Below is a google earth pic of there the last few barista tents have been, with a dodgy red dot to show where it should be... Ill confirm its location when I can find a real map.

    Thats great news Andy!

Looking forward to welcome you to our stand!

Like last year, well have our Home Barista Shoot-out on the stand happening at 3:30 pm, just to allow everybody asking questions and getting their stuff during the day...will be interesting to see who gets the title this year, unfortunately, Dan is unable to defend his title this year, after joining the professionals.... ;).

The Prize for the winner of the Di Bartoli Home Barista Shoot-out is: A Red Demaral Tamper... 8-)

So, anyone for the challenge? :D

Ill get Michelle to post competition rules and more info as soon as finalised...

Pfft, as if you waste any milk these days Dan ;D You gotta use every last drop for all those sensational double rosettas youre pouring these days. (... oh yes I did! :P)

Anyway, on the actual subject of the Aroma Shoot-out; its looking like it will be a little later in the day; probably around a 3:30 start. I need to touch base with Ofra, but I am guessing well have two rounds again, so that should we have room for EIGHT competitors; so nominate yourselves below and I guess the first eight nominations will get a shot (hehe) at taking out the title of Sydneys Best Home Barista. (Professionals need not apply :P).

More info will come to hand soon.

Mods: any chance we could get a "Home Barista Shoot-out at Aroma" thread happening?

Home Barista Shoot Out at Aroma

OK, heres some more info for the Shoot-out ...

We can confirm that the very lovely Hazel De Los Reyes, previously both an Aussie Barista Champ and Cupping Champ, will be judging the shoot-out.

    Rules:
Participants have 5 minutes to prepare 1 Espresso and 1 Latté with an unknown machine, grinder and bean.

Espresso, served in white 80ml demitasse cup:
    - Crema - 10
    - Taste - 10

Latte, served in a Latte Glass 270ml
    - Visual - 10
    - Taste - 10

    Best Overall Score= /40 wins.

If theres only enough entrants for one round, participants will be given 7 minutes to complete the above.

Enrollment closes on Wednesday 5:00 pm!!

    Re: Aroma fest

Id have a go, but my visual score will kill any chance I have - Pete often likens my latte art to two blob monsters fighting it out over another blob...not good, suffice to say!

It is looking as though Im going to make it - Petes talking about going down to pick up something he might win on EvilBay, so I might hitch a lift down, get him to drop me off and Ill hang out until he picks me up again - Im trying to suggest to him he take the kidlets to the Sydney Aquarium to buy myself some more time... :)

So heres keeping my fingers crossed that he wins his auction!

    Cheers

Uhm Di, Pete will probably hold you personally responsible for the amount of traffic on the day. Just a suggestion - get him to drop you off on the north side of the bridge and hop on the train to the quay - a lot less angst!

Thanks, Michelle - nope, Hazels judging wouldnt but I certainly would! ;)

Ill stand off to the side and watch the home-experts this year and cheer them on, with a view to possibly throwing my hat into the ring next year when I feel a bit more confident with it all. Ive never had anyone see what I do and tell me whether its right or wrong, so Id hate for my first public outing to be in front of a huge swag of people...particularly if Im doing it all wrong :-[ ;D

Trust me, I had to call for the mop after my go cos I was shaking so much pouring my latte. And yeah Im glad Hazel was judging it, shes pretty much the coolest I know of. Its all fun and games, seriously.

Ah, easy for you to say, with your Demeral Tamper, Mr 2008 Winner! ;)

If I get there, and the numbers are down for competitors, Ill jump on a machine but I wont put my name down officially in the hopes that theres a flood of other, more capable, people that put their hands up (please, God, please!)

But, let it all be on your head, Dan, if I have to actually do it - Ill make you one of the taste testers, thatll fix ya (and probably destroy poor Hazels palate for good!) :)

That would qualify you as head barista at most of my local cafes.
As long as you can hear the milk steaming from 200 meters away its gotta be a good coffee.

    8-)

Actually I have a 10 year old who is often heard to say "what are they doing to that milk?" as we walk past a "cafe".

No but when the class did a project on chocolate Sarah had some really cool cocao beans to show the class where chocolate really comes from... educated the teacher for bonus brownie points too.

My 11 yr old piped up last night and asked if i could take the giotto to school as they are having a jamboree where they sell stuff to raise money for the grade 6 camp. It seems i will be making hot chocolates for all, he then stated that all the teachers want a coffee as well.

Hopefully it wont clash with Tech ED 09 as its in september, great how kids always forget the dates.

Should be plenty of CSrs and site sponsors there.
Im not sure if any of them sell the Nemox brand of machines, but Im sure they would be more than happy to talk with you.

From a quick search, Talk Coffee, ECA, Di Bartoli, and Jetblack Espresso will be there, and quite likely many more of the sponsors (apologies to those I missed).

Ok, so far we have Thundergod, Pete, and Caspa and possibly Hoyks entering the Home Barista Shoot-out. So thats Round One looking sorted.

Anyone else care to play so we can have Round Two? Ill put my hand up so I need three more people to volunteer themselves ... cmon guys!!!!!

Also, is there an espresso-proficient CSer who can work a Giotto/Mini combo and would like to give the good folks at Di Bartoli a hand on Sunday? PM/call Ofra (Di Bartoli) if you think you can help; seems weve lost a helper to the flu :(
