    The memorial service details...

The family and friends of the late Mark Robert Harlen (Mav), Chief pilot for Crop Jet aviation, who tragically passed away on Saturday evening in an aviation accident, are invited to attend a memorial service to be held at the Wee Waa town airstrip at 3pm on Monday December 18th.

Following the service a wake will be held at the Wee Waa Bowling Club.

Tamsyne (Scoot) has requested that in lieu of floral tributes, mourners consider making a donation to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (Tamworth) PO Box 922 Tamworth 2340.
    (original post below)

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of Scoota Gals beloved husband of 17 years, Mark.

Mark was 44 years young and was doing what he loved when something went terribly wrong and his aircraft crashed at Colly Farms near Collarenebri in northern NSW on Saturday last.

Mark loved to refer to himself as "The greatest Ag Pilot and Lover ever" and that passion extended into all aspects of his life from his deep love for Scoota Gal and their son, to his coffee, to flying. Mark loved having the espresso machine and grinder in the house and would religiously make himself a long black every morning and sit in his fave corner at the dining table reading a book and drinking his coffee before heading off to work to soar with the birds.

Our deepest condolences and sympathies go out to Scoota Gal and her son during this very sad time for them.

Hang in there Scoots and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you in this very trying time and if theres anything we can do you have only to ask.

From all of us here at CS,

    Scoots,

My deepest sympathies to you and your son. Through my work I have flown with a more than a few Ag pilots and I have to say they have always earnt my respect. Its a rare breed of pilot that can manage to fly a large powerful Ag aircraft such as the Airtractor at the edge of the envelope within 20ft of the ground all day, every day. *It is hot and hard work but such a vital service in the bush. Each and every one of them was a character and Im sure Mark was no different.

An awful loss for you and your family as well as aviation.

    All the best,

    Matt

The first post in the thread has been updated with the service details

    (which are also posted below)

I think the idea of donating to the rescue helicopter service is a great way to tribute a pilot who loved the air.

    Hi Scoots,

AM passed the message on this week. So the CS community is there even if we are not here if you see what i mean.

This means of course that you are in our hearts , our souls and our minds right now even if the words are few or many we as a community feel your loss.

As many a post before me, words cannot express our feelings for you right now. But I just want you to know that we are here for you. I dont know how I could help you except to say I am here and thinking of you and your son

    Greg Pullman says it all:
"Scoots, what can I say that hasnt been said already? When you cry, the whole CS community cries with you. Our deepest sympathies."

    Tears, :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :-* Hug,Hug,Hug...... :-*

Re: Our deepest condolences to Scoota Gal

    My dear, dear Forum Friends,

I have been overwhelmed and awed at your amazing words that have so excellently conveyed your love and support for us over the past week. I feel that my own words are inadequate to express my deep thanks and gratitude for what you have thought and felt for myself and my son.

The "Triumph of Life" that was Marks tribute and celebration was just that, a triumph and celebration of a life that was just amazingly wonderful. Great friends and family spoke about Mark and we saw memories of a wonderful life. We even got to watch "Top Guns" opening sequence. I felt it would not have been a true memorial to him without that!

As a final tribute to him, three other heros of the air and ag business flew a fantastic display above our heads that brought many to tears. A glass of red wine was raised to our lips and toasted to the "Greatest Ag Pilot and Lover Ever" - (Marks own words to me on occassion!).

Personally, I am well. I am so looking forward to getting on with this business of living and that I am confident that I will do so. I have a great support network and my greatest support of course is my great and glorious Saviour.

On the practical side of things, the investigation into the accident is not yet done. I will be travelling to Sydney at some stage to hear the Coroners findings. The Australian Transport Safety Bureaus investigations also continue and they have promised me that they will leave no stone unturned in an effort to determine what has caused the accident. Yes, there are still big questions about the how and why. No, I am not dwelling on that and regardless of the outcome, the end result is the same and I am not worried or concerned if there is never an answer to why the plane came down. I am personally confident that my husband was trying everything in his power to avoid the end result. These investigations may take months.

Today, my and Marks boss is ensuring that the plane does not become a local tourist attraction, much to my pleasure. They are removing it to a suitable site to bury it and where an appropriate memorial can be erected in Marks name.

Thanks again, all. I plan to start contributing again soon! (as soon as I can get everyone to leave me alone for long enough to catch up here! :D )

And dont worry, my barista skills have not been fading! Ive been keeping busy at home making coffee for all the family!! :D

    Dearest Scoots,
I have done a lot of grief in the last few years and it there will be good days and bad days. Acknowledge those days and if people do not allow you to grieve the way you want then tell them where to go.

You will miss your darling Mark every day and the pain and sadness will sometimes be almost too much to bear. Feel free to cry, if you need to go out to a big paddock and yell and scream - do it, even if people start to think you are a raving lunatic, it is best to let it all out.

One thing about that pain and sadness is that it will always be there and will become a part of you, it will never go away. You will though, learn to live with it and will get on with your life.

    Love and hugs

Were proud of you Scoots, sounds like youre handling it well. I know the reality of this sort of thing can take a long time to sink in, so dont feel youre going backwards if things start going pear-shaped in a few months. Its all part of the process of dealing with loss, and is necessary to be able to move forward.

    All the best.

    Hi ScootaGal,

It does indeed sound like you have a great support network and great hope in this time. It sounds like a great tribute to Mark on Monday from what you wrote and it is great that you have people to share that with also. A few laughs, tears, and red wine sound like it was a great rememberance and celebration of someone that will always be a major part of your life.

Along with so many people on this forum my thoughts, and definately my prayers will be with you.

I look forward to you being back contributing to this forum; to hear your barista advice and correcting my grammar as you do both of these things so well ;)

Even though theres quite a spectrum of users, characters and personalities on this forum, its remarkable how something like this snaps everyone to attention and directs their thoughts to things beyond this life. I think most of us have some capacity to perceive divine things; its just a pity we stop to reflect on them so rarely and so briefly.

I too would like to extend my condolences for your sad loss, Ive enjoyed reading your contributions to the group and even though I dont know you personally your posts reveal that you are an open caring and sharing person. These attributes do not exist in a vacuum and have clearly been nurtured in a loving relationship.

The next few months will be tough but with the gift of your young son by your side part of your husband will always be there.

Im sure a future with much happiness lies ahead for you and your family

Sounds like youre hanging in there, Scoota, which is about you can do right now. Your son and your faith will keep you on track most days, the off track days will also be healing ones, though they wont seem like it at the time.

You and your son will be in my thoughts over the Christmas period.
