    Ill be going to the event and am happy to offer a lift to anyone that might need one. I work in the North Ryde/Macquarie Park area and will be driving home to the Inner West afterwards. I dont even mind going out of my way a little, especially if it means another CSer can come along who wouldnt have been able to otherwise.

    PM me if youre interested and well sort something out.

    An excellent way to spend an evening....

    It was interesting watching the Gene Cafe and the digital Hottop roasting side-by-side.

    It was also really good to converse with fellow-snobs about all things coffee.

    Sibonis at Pymble provided a fabulous backdrop for the occasion. Thanks for making us all so welcome, Dean.

    I really enjoyed hearing Serge (who has had many, many years roasting experience) talk so passionately about his coffee experiences, techniques and preferences.

    Thanks, Serge and Dean for hosting this enjoyable evening.

    I would also like to thank Serge and Dean for hosting this meeting. It was great to meet other CSers, its good to be able to put faces to names. Serge was very happy to share his knowledge of roasting with us, and it was very interesting to see the I-Roast, Gene Cafe and Hottop in action.

    I was definitely inspired by the Gene Cafe. Im not in the market for it yet, but when I am, Ill be phoning Serge. :)

    Re: Recreational Valentines Event in Sydney

    Hi Mocha Z ,

    short answer - all three will roast coffee to give a great result : iRoast is a little noisy so that it is more difficult to hear 1st and 2nd crack ; genecafe has great rotary buttons therefore you can vary the roast as you go and is relatively quiet ;
    hottop is just like a big roaster only scaled down - it is quiet also and the cooling tray is neat to watch , it produces more smoke that the other two so outdoors or under a rangehood helps. If you want to buy one you need to work out how much you want to spend and how much coffee you will be roasting - also important is the after sales service.

    regards
    Dino
