...watching the Cup Tasting semis live now.
Alf is such a great MC.

I notice the new black lined cupping cups to "fix" last years problem.

Not sure who the cup sponsor is... it was ACF (FAC) but these are a different shape (taller).

    edit:

Local lad Georg Branny from Austria got through to the final with a slow and steady 7 out of 8 on 7 minutes 34 seconds.* The same technique that got him into the semis.

Cory Andreen from Germany, Kim Ossenblok from Spain and Tassos from Greece are the others that make the top 4 final.

A company called notNeutral is a WBC sponsor. Could it be them?

Well, if the comp is hosted in Austria, and Switzerland is next door....I guess this could be true.

I did see some banner ads for dAncap running too... might be their cups?

I just watched Fabrizio from Mexico. Sig drink was an infusion of chaff, a tea made from coffee leaf and an espresso on top. Seriously unique!

    Woo hoo

Zoltan Kis from Hungary just won the ibrik world Championship.
    (hes a CoffeeSnob member too!)

I competed with 3 of this years competitors last year... Zoltan from Hungry, Havva from the UK and Turgay from Turkey so was hoping one of them would take the crown. All 3 were good people with a huge passion for coffee.

Look what I found on the World Coffee Events front page...

My ibrik setup from Maastricht last year!

It looks a whole lot cleaner there than it does today at the Snobbery. ;D

    Zoltan just passed this on...

Zoltans dad filmed the world championship winning performance.

This is a very modern take on a traditional brewing method. Double filtered aeropress ran through a cooling tube for the cold coffee section... nice!

Its a pity that WCE didnt film all the competition. Maybe next year they will?

Thanks for that Andy, its the first bit of decent footage I have seen!

Its a pity they use livestream for the official footage, the quality is virtually un-watchable. There are much better options out there these days that provide good quality video feeds.

It might be a local bandwith problem?*

For me the livestream footage was amazing.* Well filmed and well edited (live mixing on the fly).* A few people complained about the music/commentator volumes but Stephanie from WCE tweaked it during the Barista comp and everyone was happy.

There are quality settings at the bottom of the frame, they look similar to a mobile phone signal quality.* If you have the bandwidth it runs full screen ok.

The WCE videos are still on-line, maybe try watching them again on a better connection?

edit: Attached below is a screen shot I just grabbed.

Interesting Andy, I have a super fast ADSL2+ connection (close to the exchange on good copper), so unless it somehow is auto detecting the incorrect bandwidth I am not sure what the problem is. There is no way i can watch it full screen, its just rubbish quality.

    I will have another look.

Re: World Barista Championships 2012 - Vienna

Yeah, the stream was pretty average quality - looked to be around 300-400kbps tops. The key is to watch it in a small frame!

The Livestream team seem to be using Tricasters for their onsite encoding so the quality is definitely there, it just comes down to the size of the pipe they had access to in Austria for uploading to their servers probably in New York...

Re: World Barista Championships 2012 - Vienna

I watched most of the events on my TV via Boxee box, it was decent enough. I did complain about the volume of the music and some of the mics (voice) clipping at times, it was all mixed on the fly, so yeah, still pretty excellent. Cant complain, could have had nothing at all!
