CS member Topshot competing in the 2012 Olympics

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
CS member View Profile: topshot - CoffeeSnobs is once again representing Australia at the Olympics. Four years ago Warren brought home a medal from Beijing. Here's to wishing him the best of luck in bringing one home from London!

To help Warren in his quest, after hearing that the coffee in the Olympic Village left a lot to be desired, the CS community came together and with Andy's help were able to sort out getting some brewing equipment and great quality beans sent off to him: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/notau/3252...tml#post475310

Congratulations on once again reaching the Olympics Warren and best of luck in bringing some metal home!

Good luck Warren, and if you get some time for a coffee in town, google 'Gwilym's Disloyalty Card', which provides the details of 5 or 6 small cafes that do really good coffee (ok....I've only tried 4 of them but gee they stood out from the usual ho hum stuff.

The family all watched (the recorded) opening of the games.
We gave Warren a wave and also heard the commentators mention him as Australia came out on the arena.

Wow, what a huge stage event and excellent entertainment. It had a bit of everything, I loved the history timeline and plenty of surprises including some eclectic music selections. Loved every minute and the united country cauldron is awesome.

It was funny seeing how brainwashed my kids are... they knew all the coffee producing countries

Perhaps one day they will have a barista event at the Olympics, with CoffeeSnobs as an official sponsor of course

    Hammadou the Hippo

Ah, I love these Olympic stories. It says more about the spirit of the Olympics than the medal successes: Eddie the Eagle, Eric the Eel and now...

After Eric the Eel, meet Hammadou the Hippo: 'I have no technique ... only strength'

Depends on what you see the Olympics as? Is it a meeting of the best athletes in the world or is at a meeting of athletes from around the world?

It is clear that 'athletes' like Djibo Issaka have their own 'hero' aspect but in the commercial world, the cost of holding the games couldn't sustain that many athletes so they have Olympic qualifying times. But is there a different qualifying time for different countries? It's hard to imagine that Djibo met that time if he is finishing a couple of minutes behind the rest of the field.

Also, as mentioned in the article:
"You have got to be encouraging more countries to get involved, but there are better scullers from different countries who are not allowed to compete here as a result."
    But the spectators loved it.....

If I'm reading it right TopShot shot 591 (out of a perfect 600) and it wasnt quite enough to qualify.

Seems the cut-off this year was 595! Wow, that's a tough competition and the top qualifier got a perfect 600.

Time to kick back and let your hair down now, although you didnt make the finals I'm sure the trip will be fun anyway.

Look forward to hearing how it was.

It wasn't my day today, I shot well, but didn't get the score I needed!

I'm now siting back having a real coffee ( thanks to Andy ).

I'll be going and watching a few events now I have finished.

    Regards,

    Warren

    Hi Everyone,

Just a quick thank you for all of your support and good wishes.
I was unable to get into the final this time (let alone a medal), I will try for Rio in 4 years!

I had a good time regardless, but it is good to be home with my wife again!

    Thanks again,

    Warren.
