Sydney Advanced Home Espresso- 28 April?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I am in final negotiations on a site where we can run a session on the 28th April... *

We all bring along our machines, grinders and say 500g or so of our fave coffee to play with. The aim of the session is to produce the best espresso possible, with familiar beans using our own equipment. *

The session is limited to no more than 6 participants (subject to available space) and will run with 4 takers. For those contemplating a purchase, your course fee will act as a discount off regular CS pricing on any HX or dual boiler machine/grinder package you purchase in the month following the course.

This 3.5-4 hour session will be $125

    We can look at: *

-What constitutes an Australian espresso? *
-Is that right for my machine? *
-What is the best dosing method for my machine? *
-The role of tamp. * *
-Do I need to temp. surf and if so, how should I do it? *
-How do I cope with a new and unknown coffee?
-Milk texture- what works best with my machine? (NB this will not be a latte art session but you are welcome to bring your fave cups to impress us with your skills! *
-Other topics- as arranged in advance by the group. *

PM or email me to indicate interest.... 8-)

I would love to do this course, however Im between jobs atm and not certain of my availability on that date (or any other date atm). *With a bit of luck there will be a space still available closer to the date. *I know that the popularity of Chriss courses and the fact that he isnt often in Sydney make this unlikely though..... :( :( :( :( :(

I wish I could... Our manpower planners have already "swapped" me to another crew for that day to cover for a lack of manpower there. *:(

The interesting thing is that they (the planners) generally only orchestrate the movement of people between crews about a week before it happens, but I received my notification with about 2 months notice!! *:o Theres no way I can get out of it...

Now if it was the Friday Id be there with bells on. *;)

Re: Sydney Advanced Home Espresso- 28 April?

To update everyone on progress of this "event"....We will need to change venue as the day is not ok for Dennis as a host, so:

I am in final negotiations on a venue where we can run a session from 2pm-6pm (at the latest ;))on the 28th April... *

We all bring along our machines, grinders and say 500g or so of our fave coffee to play with and dial in our skills. The aim of the session is to produce the best espresso possible, with familiar beans using our own equipment. *Later, you receive some other coffee unknown to you so you can impress us with your incredible talent! 8-)

The session is limited to no more than 6 participants (subject to available space) and will run with 4 takers.

Five members have expressed interest so far and will receive priority once bookings open.

This 4 hour session will be $125

    We can look at: *

-What constitutes an Australian espresso? *
-Is that right for my machine? *
-What is the best dosing method for my machine? *
-The role of tamp. * *
-Do I need to temp. surf and if so, how should I do it? *
-How do I cope with a new and unknown coffee?
-Milk texture- what works best with my machine? (NB this will not be a latte art session but you are welcome to bring your fave cups to impress us with your skills! *
-Other topics- as arranged in advance by the group. *

PM or email me to indicate interest.... 8-)

    Hi all,

A quick note to confirm that the session will occur at DiBartoli Coffee Centre at Bondi Junction. Arrival time will be 2.30pm for a 3.00pm start. A quick mental stocktake leaves I think 1 place available. A more comprehensive post will occur in the DiBartoli sponsor area shortly.

A dinner on the Saturday night is not going to work for me due to the need to grab a plane...but I could do Friday night if there are CSers who would like to get together? Thursday night is now out for me. Perhaps somewhere like Wagamama might be an appropriate venue...That said, you guys know Sydney better than I do ;)

Where in Sydney will you be staying Chris.
That might help dictate a location for a dinner.
Ive just noticed though that the Friday is my daughters birthday so no matter how much Id like to be there it may be out of my contriol.
    Ill see.

Re: Sydney Advanced Home Espresso- 28 April?

Couldnt you find anything closer to the centre of the CBD? ;)

So pretty much anywhere would do.

I may be able to make it.
My daughter usually goes out on Thursday nights, so will probably celebrate her birthday with her friends and then sleep through Friday.

Darling Harbour may be the go for the atmosphere and Im sure theres some good food there somewhere.
Otherwise I was thinking suburban but it depends on who is coming and their preferences too.

Any particular cuisine a favourite Chris?

Thank you so much to all who attended for making this caffeinated afternoon so much fun.

I sincerely hope that those who attended found the session useful...

Thanks also to Ofra and Renzo for turning their shop upside down to create a CS playroom ;)...

I hope that this will be the beginning of a long association with the Sydney CS set and look forward to the next session in the future...I had a ball!

Thankyou Chris. This was a great afternoon that I would highly recommend to everyone. Personally, the session really helped me get to know my machine, grinder and palate much better.

It was also wonderful to meet some of "the faces behind the names" and share our enthusiasm for coffee.

Finally and very importantly, to Ofra and Renzo - your warmth and generous hospitality always impress me. Thankyou my friends.

I need to add my thankyous-

To Chris, for a fun and informative afternoon. I had a blast, it was a great time. Thanks so much.

To Renzo and Ofra for hosting us, many thanks for allowing us to overrun your shop.

To everyone for your tolerance of little Ezekiel- its often quite hard to get to things like that with a little one, so I was very grateful for the opportunity.

Great day, I enjoyed everything but that decaf!!!

P.S. Chris, what on earth were you doing up at 5am after such a long day!?!

Michelle, I hated that decaf too! Chris you are nasty, nasty man! *:P

Nah seriously, it was a really fun afternoon. Thanks Ofra and Renzo for letting us play at your house.

It was good to put faces to names and you are all such nice people.

Chris, you made the session fun and relaxed. Many thanks.

    [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

I have to say that I was seriously over-caffeinated by the end of it though...(looks for the shaking hand smilie) but it was all good.
