Besides in this topic is the FAQ going to be located anywhere else on the site. Maybe a button inserted in the Home / Help / search / Members/ Profile etc area

Can suggest a couple of topics...
    a) SB or Silvia - which do I buy?
    b) Tamping technique
    c) How to pour a shot - general parameters
    and...
    d) How to create a thread flame war and upset people when all youre trying to do is learn in an entertaining way. (I think Im quickly becoming, if not already, the site champion for this one)

Re: FAQ.... what are the frequent questions?

Some simple topics that probably have been covered is

    Grind Type (Which to use)
    * Plunger - Coarse
    * Filter / Dripolator - Medium
    * Stove Top / Espresso Machine - Fine
    * Turkish Coffees - Extra Fine (Like baby powder)

Also Coffee drinks (how to make them)
Ristretto - Like Espresso but stop slightly short (maybe about 20ml of coffee) on espresso machine
Espresso / short black - 30ml of coffee through espresso machine
Cappuccino - 1 part espresso, 1 part steamed milk, 1 part froth / foam served in cappuccino cup
Latte - 1 part espresso, 3 parts steamed milk with little foam on top served in taller latte glass
Flat White - 1 part espresso, 3 parts steamed milk served in Cappuccino cup
Affagato - 30ml of espresso poured over a small scoop of icecream.
    etc etc

    Good topic suggestions guys.

What new categories should they appear under and what should the question be?

Re: FAQ.... what are the frequent questions?

    Category:
    General - Storage

    Question:
Should I store coffee in my fridge or freezer?

    Answer:
This method of coffee storage is widely known and there is disagreement as to how effective it is and whether it might in fact harm your coffee. The factors that cause coffee to go stale are heat, light, air and moisture so any storage should minimise these if possible. Cooling coffee beans in a fridge or freezer will reduce exposure to heat and light but will increase the chance that condensation will cause the beans to go stale.

The general opinion among coffee snobs is that there are better alternatives for storing coffee than in a fridge or freezer and that if you are having to keep it in that environment you are not drinking it fast enough.

Re: FAQ.... what are the frequent questions?

Okay, I did not see this thread before but I just spent time writing a beginners guide to roasting with a popper. Just goes to show that great minds like Andy and myself think alike ;D

Or that some of us have waaay to much time on our hands ;)

Nice effort Matt! I think we will run with that as a structure at least for now.

So Lucinda and TG, it appears that you could both add something to the home roasting sections.

    Possibly.

I see lucinda has already posted hers.

Mine is a little more basic (no thermocouples).

I might post it with hers and you can make up your mind whether to publish them both.
That might be good - to have slightly different perspectives.
    Your call.

Re: FAQ.... what are the frequent questions?

I agree with TG, although very similar, the different perspectives helps peoples knowledge. I did a lot of reading of coffeesnobs, sweet marias and other sites over the last few months to glean the knowledge I have built up. If it helps others that is great.

Id love to see some stuff on beginning blending and cupping too. Mostly because I am now starting to feel more confident in my roasting and am ready to start playing around with it.

How to use the tool bar in the Post Reply section.

    and other how tos

maybe something like this site http://www.archimedespalimpsest.org/...p/posting.html

Re: FAQ.... what are the frequent questions?

Some FAQ that Ive noticed on this site and a few others.
    - When do I start timing the shot? When I hit the switch/lever etc, or when the first drops appear?
    - Does it take the same time for a shot from a single basket as a double basket?

Re: FAQ.... what are the frequent questions?

    Hmmm,

Dont know really? There are a lot of sites already in existence that cover a lot of this sort of information in great detail, including graphics and images in some instances, so maybe a Reference Category could address this sort of thing with relevant links under sub-categories in a single thread? Any ideas?

    Mal.
