Low-key coffee event in Perth this Saturday am

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Well Im sad to report that my son is already three days old, and has STILL never been to a coffee event. *To rectify this situation, well be having a low-key coffee morning at our place this Saturday, from 10am until 12noon. *We have heaps of single origin roasted beans, and a fair few green beans too, so theres no need to bring anything - unless you have a good machine!! *We have a fairly reliable Quaha, and a fairly unreliable Sunbeam, as well as a Sunbeam grinder, an I-Roast II, and a Swedish stove-top bean-roaster. *Therell be cupping, espresso-making, perhaps some roasting, and of course, some obligatory comments about "hints of coriander in this single origin" or similar...

Its very short notice, of course, but it doesnt really matter if not many people come along - all the more for the newborn to sample!!

Where: 50 Freeland Square, Eden Hill
    When: 10am
Bring: A better machine if you have one!! *Otherwise just be ready to enjoy and comment on coffee (the coriander comments taken)

    Matt

In case a friendly mod doesnt do it for you, I strongly advise modifying your email address so that a person reading it can figure it out, but an automatic spam generating tool cannot.

EG: Remove the @ or put the text no_spam_me *in the midst of the address.

Just helps cut down on spammers a little.

    Brett.

PS. Congrats on the bub. Its great fun watching them learn and do stuff and boring all your friends with gushing!!

Im in Melbourne, so also will not be joining you, but have a great day.

Belated congrats from a Brisbane newbie. (An old newbie)!
Notice you have a Quaha, aka Imat, aka Nepoletana. Our ancient Imat died after years of sterling service and nobody in Brisbane was able to repair it. Fortunately an angel in Melbourne brought in back to life, complete with new bits in the Lux grinder...all for less than $200! Happy to advise the address if invited.
Still think it did as good a job as our Silvia for routine drinkies but admit the god-shots are more likely on the latter.
    Have a good Satuday!

Re: Low-key coffee event in Perth this Saturday am

hmm thats interesting - our quaha has been pretty reliable ever since we got it a few years ago. We dont use the grinder, as it just cant get it quite right - we use the sunbeam conical burr grinder, which does a pretty good job. A few times weve used the quaha for events where weve been making 60-70 coffees in a row, and its done fine... Unfortunately the same cant be said for our Sunbeam EM6900, which has had more problems than its worth listing - last time I tried it, it wouldnt even do anything at all - no water, nothing... Its been to the fixers a few times while it was under warranty, but it ran out in january, so Im not sure what well do about it.

In Perth there is a place that specialises in the quaha/nepolitana/etc machines, so we had some plastic parts replaced with stainless steel, but besides that, its all just as we received it from cash converters a few years back! I think were pushing it to the brink of what it can do, but it can be relied upon to extract pretty good shots - today its made a few beautiful flat whites and a delish espresso :-)

However, having tried the top isomac the other day, teamed up with a mazzer grinder... whoa!! That was making ristrettos that would compare with the best Ive had from good cafes...

Oh... forgot to mention - thank you so much to those who have offered their congratulations on the new arrival!

Just so you dont think Im a COMPLETELY heartless father (not yet bringing him to a coffee event n all), I am pleased to announce that today the young son enjoyed his very first episode of MacGyver - and it was a DOOZY!!
