Four Free Spots - "Bush to Bin to Cup" Course

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello all,

Our roaster, Peter Wolff, will be running a course called "Bush to Bin to Cup" next Thursday from 5pm to 7pm at our roastery in Abbotsford. The course is basically an introduction to coffee and a tour around the roastery. We can squeeze in a few more people, so Pete would like to offer four coffeesnobs the chance to come along for free. Please post or PM if interested.

    Cheers,

    Luca

Will be interesting to have an "official" tour, instead of the usual just wandering through b/c it feels like our second home anyway ;)

Me Too, very interested if there is a spot and presuming that "next Thursday" refers to the 17th, [my time machine is currently in repair]

The fun and games will start at 5pm this Thursday (ie. the 17th) at First Pour and will go until about 7pm. Im sure that youll be adequately plied with coffee, but if youre after a convenient option for dinner, Victoria Street has heaps of Vietnamese restaurants.

We just installed a new projector in First Pour, so if Pete hasnt incorporated it into the course, bug him to show you the japanese siphon championships!

    Getting to us:

First Pour is located at 26 Bond Street, Abbotsford. The roastery is next door, at 22 Bond Street. We presume that number 24 is the weeds between the buildings.

Car: There is usually ample parking in Bond Street or directly outside First Pour, but note that Bond Street is no entry from Victoria Street. If you are coming from Church Street (ie. coming from the city), turn left into South Audley Street, right at Southampton Crescent and right again into Bond Street. If you are coming from Burnley Street, turn right into Duke Street, left at Southampton Crescent and left again into Bond Street.

Tram: The number 109 tram runs along Victoria street, from the City to Box Hill. There is a stop at South Audley Street (Houghtons Dry Cleaners).

    Cheers,

Sorry guys, just realised i cant make it tonight to the roasting gig in Abbotsford :( due to it being Abbotsford Melbourne, rather than Abbotsford Sydney :P. I could spare a couple of hours tonight, but going to Melbourne might be pushing it.
Apologies to reubster and GregoryQ and Veneziano of course.

Id also like to Peter for the enthusiastic presentation. When I got home I snapped open a couple of my bean roasts to look for colour consistency (looked OK under lights, though the surface of the bean was a bit darker than the internal colour).

Thanks also to Luca for organising the extra spots, I had a great time.

Still trying to figure out how I gave an "indian nugget" vibe, but the coffee bags being put to good use in the coffee cupboard. :)

    Gavin.

PS. Did I hear mention of cupping events?

    Hi Guys & Gals

Just wanted a big thank you to all of you that attending last Thursday and for your emails outlining how much you enjoyed yourselves!

Luca and I are planning other activities shortly that will focus on traditional cuppings of origins etc.. That will have the same sense of fun and learning.

Looking forward to seeing you all around the roastery soon.

Thanks Peter for an informative and entertaining evening. Peter is one of the mad scientist type people of the coffee world and has the energy and passion of about 4 regular people. His knowledge of coffee coupled with his naturally entertaining personality made for an interesting evening even though the content was already quite familiar to me.
I am not sure if the intention was to guage interest for this to be run as a regular course, but with a few minor tweaks could run successfully as a paid course.

Look forward to future courses and of course dropping by the roastery.

    Cheers,
    Matt

    Thats correct!

Pete and I are always all ears for suggestions on cupping courses and things that we could run. I have been fooling around a bit with having different origins around on Saturdays, with yesterdays Australian coffee lineup being a bit of an example. Our S/S cupping spoons arrived last week, so the new course draws ever closer ...

    Cheers,

    Luca
