Options for Sydney BeanBay pickup - July onwards.

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I thought after reading the various discussion regarding options to pick up beans from BeanBay in Sydney it would be good to start a thread where people can put some options forward then we can start a poll from those options. I am sure we wont find an option to please everyone but we can aim for the majority and go from there, or rotate the options around so that everyone is convenienced, and inconvenienced, equally ;) Once we work out the where we will be making the pickup point etc we can work out the logistics of where they are delivered and maybe organise someone to pick the whole lot up or something like that. Obviously it would be nice to support out sponsors as much as possible so maybe we can make sure Di Bartoli sees us there for a pickup catch up at some stages if they are interested in such a thing. As far as coffee shops there isnt any other sponsor options in Sydney unfortunately (hopefully that came out the way it was intended).

So start suggesting Sydney siders so we can be prepared for July.

Is it possible for two pickup points? Or are they delivered to one?
If its the later maybe they can be picked up then appropriate meeting point for say the western csers from the second point? Im sure wed be able to organise that.

I would imagine it works out cheaper to just the one. I am sure something could be worked out as you say. If they were dropped of at somewhere like Coffeeparts than I, or someone else who is willing, could pick up the beans for who is going to meet up and leave the beans for those who want to pick them up from Coffeeparts (or elsewhere). Or of course if someone is willing to pick up for a group than that would work as well. But that is logistics we are probably better off working out a meeting point first. Whether it be a cafe or someones house, like other states are doing.

Nice work on the thread Coffeechaser!

(Ill pop-in with comments from the outer every now and then)

Shipping to two places would add to the freight price unless the quantities were high and equal(ish).

As suggested the better option is either find a great place to meet or find someone able to move some of the beans to the second location.

Depending on the courier, boxes are 25-40kg in weight and a total Sydney pickup is circa 100kg so moving them in the back of a car is not a huge task. (ie: you dont need a truck and forklift to move them).

Thanks for moving the thread Mal!

Obviously I couldnt set up a thread in this section so figured news/events was the closest option.

It seems there might be some bean moving going around for June so that might be the test run to see how a get together goes after all. Although I got my beans delivered this month I might still meet up with the others for the social side of it if it fits in for me.

Because this thread has been moved to this section we cannot put up a poll ourselves but I have pmed Andy about it and he will set up a poll as soon we have suggestions. So even if it is a selfish suggestion such as somewhere in the Shire than put it forward. I think it would be great to share the meet up point around so that we can get to know the local snobs haunts, or peoples houses so they can show their set up off.

That may be an option for the poll, a snobs house. I would certainly offer my place up if needed, is only small but I am around a fair bit with living where I study and all, so if people cant make it on the time. But seems to be others who are willing to do the same. I am near the Macquarie Centre so fairly close to the West Ryde option that has been offered for the June BeanBay.

Has gone very quite in this thread... ;)

We can prob freight to two places in Sydney assuming that the bean volume is somewhere around 50/50.

...but we would have to know before BeanBay where the points are.
CoffeeParts has great parking and Di Bartoil are fairly central.

It would seem to me that dual Sydney pick up points of Coffeeparts and DiBartoil would go close to hitting the mark and if someone is well organised and wants to arrange a cafe (or home) get together then maybe they could pickup from one of those sites?

    ...just kicking options around...

Yes, its quite quiet Andy! ;)

Can use my place (Sylvania) - 30 min drive from Lpool using the M5 and I can probably do a drop off to Coffee Parts on a Saturday morning without too much trouble.

Sounds like a community service - dont know whats come over me lately...must have been that bump on the head that Im still paying for!

If Di Bartoli and Coffeeparts were both drop off points as Andy suggested that could give us a lot of options. That way if someone does a pick up of beans from either place for those who are up for a get together it would be all sorted. Than we could share around where that is month to month, including Sylvania. (I am down that way at least twice a week Dennis) Would just mean we need to be organised before delivery of the beans have to be finalised. I will pm Andy and get a poll organised in this thread so we can work out who would want to get what delivered to where.

I really dont mind any of the options.

Both Coffeeparts and Di Bartoli are quite a distance to travel for me but its only once month. Thats asuming that I actually manage to get any beans off beanbay - missed out again, was o/seas :) Somewhere central would be a nice change.

A get together would be great too. Im pretty flexible.

    Central? Find another site sponsor!
    Easy fixed.
    :)

The concept of beans going to CoffeeParts and DiBartoli seems like a good one as they are both coffee businesses, both site sponsors and both there all day to get the delivery.

The "gotcha" with delivering to a CSrs home address is that if they are not home then they will have to get the beans from the courier depot (where ever that is??)

So a CS meet/roast/coffee event can still happen, just need someone to grab the beans from one of the locations prior.

It will be interesting to see where this thread is in a couple of weeks. We might kick off similar ones for the other pickup points next week

IMHO, the obvious solution is to sit down over a coffee and have a chat about what to do for future bean bays. :D

If a good crowd gets to the June BeanBay pickup that could very well happen.

Re: Options for Sydney BeanBay pickup - July onwar

This is getting embarrassing - other States seem to be leaving us behind with organising pick-ups and get togethers.

Can I make the following proposition? I can take delivery of the beans at my place of work (Sefton). Am happy to hold on to the West-sider beans here at work for people, though they would have to be picked up between 9-5 Mon-Fri.

I can also take home (Sylvania) any beans where owners of said beans are welcome to come along for a Saturday pick-up/cuppa/morning tea type affair or even pick them up in the evening during the week.

Im also prepared to make a drop off to Coffee Parts for the remainder.

If it all gets too much, Ill opt out for August and someone else can organise/suggest something.

    How does that sound?

Great offer Dennis and if I am free on the get together morning than I will be there. I reckon we should just run with that. That may even be better for Viviane as well with Sylvania not too far from the M5.

Re: Options for Sydney BeanBay pickup - July onwar

By Central I was meaning somewhere closer to the centre of the Metropolitan area than the eastern suburbs of Sydney (both Di Bartoli and coffee parts being off in that direction).

I liked the idea of a get together in Granville as was suggested in the other thread. With the beans being dropped off at Di Bartoli. That pastry place sounds deadly.

Unfortunately, I cant suggest any great coffee places that would be sponsor-worthy.

But as I said Im flexible. Dennis offer sounds great - never been to Sylvania. I just have to figure out how to get there ;)

Ok, so thanks to Dennis kind offer weve now got a place to meet for the July bean bay. My offer stands of picking the beans up from a sponsor and bringing them to an event, Im also happy to pick up CS members who cant get to Sylvania and give them a lift if need be.
