    Yemen McSpresso™

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
OAK BROOK, IL – McDonalds Corporation (NYSE: MCD) announced today that a deal has been forged to forward purchase the entire 2008-2012 Yemen Arabica coffee crop to build the McCafé™ arm of their international business. *Since the first McCafé™ opened in 1993 in Melbourne, Australia, the brand has maintained a distinct focus on making value-priced, specialty coffee accessible to people in 17 countries. *

With over 27,871 restaurants worldwide, in 119 different countries the future demand for a unique coffee that could standout in the fierce specialty coffee market place has caused the McCafé™ brand to find a truly unique coffee and purchase the entire crop for the next 4 year period. *McDonald’s Chief Executive Officer Jim Skinner said “this is a very exciting time for our international franchisees and affiliates”. *

The new McCafé™ blends are expected to be released into the market under the banner of McSpresso™ late second quarter 2008. *Jennifer Nau the media liaison for Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) was not available for comment at the time this went to press.

This is fat corporate power gone nuts!

I’ll contact all our local coffee brokers first thing in the morning to see what stocks of the current Yemen crop we can purchase now.

    relax ...

like Starbucks buying out Clover, its a desperate grab of a perceived market share they [s]want[/s] need, to satisfy shareholders that things are progressing in the company.

Sure, theyve secured some premium beans ... doesnt mean itll translate into a premium cup experience ;)

Coffee is peripheral as a business focussed imperative for Mac ... coke & burgers remain the profit source via a gluttinous teenage market (not interested in coffee - let alone understanding why Yemen beans are choice).

However, it may be a sideline, but methinks theyve shored up the Yemen crop to be able to give the punter something in the cup way beyond what they have been able to offer previously. *A pimply teenager behind a Jura with ground Yemen may extract something that a McCafe regular may think "mmm, thats good"

& it is ... to that palate ...

relax, QUALITY wins in the end ... & why & try to win over a customer that frequents McDongas for their choice of coffee anyway?

No, no, no, this cant be a joke! Cant you see? This is the new wave in specialty coffee, this is what weve all been dreaming about for so long. To have some of the best coffee in the world at our own local, beloved McCaf险®øª[ch8734] is what will finally give purpose to our lives, its what will make the struggle worthwhile. This is the true meaning of Coffee™. I see it all now. Oh, how could I have been so blind for so long? Please, please, Andy, tell us this is real, that we havent been led astray by gossips, skipskaps and skallywags! Dont dash all our hopes on the barren, stoney ground of cold, dumb reality, just because of a date in the calendar. think of the after-taste. McSpresso™©® and Yemen™ belong together; they sing, they trip off the tongue like sweet, sibilant siblings. If McCafé cant deliver quality coffee, then - it all seems so pointless... :(

    Re: Yemen McSpresso™

About five years ago I had a source of some old-stock Yemen Mocha (Moka.. whatever). The "real thing" as my source described it. About four full bags were purchased by a friend. They happened to be in a load of some dozens of full bags of coffee they bought that were found in a corner of a coffee warehouse in the San Francisco area. It was old when they got them but still good. Over about a year or so I bought some four or five pounds of it from them. It was amazing and showed me where the name "Moka" came from. It added an amazing chocolate taste to whatever coffee I blended with it. it all finally turned, the beans becoming somewhat yellow, and no matter how it was roasted it was dead. Since then the few Yemens I have had have paled in comparison to the point that I gave up on it.

Yup, good one Andy! Had us fooled there for a moment. Much better than the previous story about McDs releasing a new range of Kangaroo burgers called McHop.

On further reflection, let them buy it up. After they grind enough rocks and blunten their burrs, thus cutting into their profit margin, theyll probably release the remaining crop at a loss and go back to nice safe Brazils.

Nearly as good as the one about coffeegeek being renamed to teageek a few April 1s back cos Starbucks were going to sue them or something ::) Nicely worded though Andy ;) Pity though, I could have resold my Yemen from the last beanbay as a collectors item!

    Slightly confused :-/
"The entire yeman arabica crop", are we talking all yemen coffee from all regions (Mattari ,
Hirazi/Harasi , Haimi, Saihi, Ismaili, Sharasi, Dhamari, Rimy), or just from one region, or just from one farm within one region?

I think Andy has enough pull in the coffee industry to knock this McSpresso deal on the head. Ive heard that Andys been on the phone to Kevin Rudd while he is on his US tour to lobby for a reversal, and that Kevin has been very supportive. ;)

Im sure Andy will have some breaking news soon! ::)

How can a company just buy out a whole bean varietal - "we own the yemen bean now"!!!! Thats crazy. Yemens such a unique bean too, and too bloody expensive for maccas. They cant get an advertising spin by buying expensive yemen the same way say starbucks might be able to advertise the clover. It wont make their coffee taste any better with their mc-baristas in charge.

Cant they just buy the cheapest arabica they can possibly find and advertise "we have the FRESHEST, HIGHEST QUALITY, 100% ARABICA BEANS" like all the other big coffee chains probably do.

Dry up my Yemen supplies?? Ye Gods. *:(

I do know, that Nestle have been dumped and Moccopan have been re-instated to supply the "New Blend", hence all of the Cafina grinders have been adjusted accordingly.
It will be interesting to see how dark/light they roast it. Although by the time we get it it will be nearly 4-6 months old and lost that incredible flavour.

    Oh, and Chris...thank you *;)

small edit note: Richy4000, I actually happen to be a "McBarista", and I was trained by a professional Barista with the certificates to go along with it. Some of us actually know what we are doing...:) 8-)

Im sorry Maccaschick, Im sure there are exceptions like yourself to the standard "button pushers" you find in Starbucks etcetera. Im pretty sure their baristas are trained too, but ninetysomthing percent of them are still "button pushers" and not baristas...unfortunately.

But youll be able to make that Yemen sing wont you!! Luck you hey!! :)
