can a macap m4 be converted?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
hi all. i have a dilemma.ive decided that i want a macap m4 or mc4 for its durability and grind quality, though im not sure which. i like the bare look of the mc4, and dont think ill need the doser as i mostly only do 2 coffees a day. though there is strong argument for the doser. if the choice were the m4d or m4 the choice wouldnt be hard, however i cant justify quite that expenditure. the mc4 being a deli grinder would require grinding into a separate container then into the portafilter, which isnt so much of a concern for me. would it be wiser to get the m4, which if i dont like could be converted to a mc4 minus a few screws? cheers! ::)

    Hi secondcrack...

Bits like dosers etc are expensive and difficult to get hold of. I recommend that you get the M4 or save that loose change and shell out for the M4D. The M4 is a bag grinder and due to the spout design, avalanching is pretty severe. Id dont recommend it as a home doserless grinder. Youd be better off with a Compak K3T.

cheers 2mcm. im relatively new to the scene. ive been using a bodum antigua at the moment which dumps into a cup like container, which i then pour into the portafilter. could i not do this with the mc4 with similar results, given that i dont mind the mess?

also would the compak k3t be a step down in grind quality? it doesnt appear to be as sturdy to me.

ive never used a doser model. is the m4 the best allround machine in the price range?

I think the M4 and Mazzer mini-manual are both excellent in their price bracket. The Compak is a (tiny) step down in build quality but performace is terrific. There is a little free play in the Compak upper burr, but this would be easily remedied with a turn or two of teflon.

I still think the Compack is the best bang for buck doserless.
