    EMO 480 Sunbeam help needed

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I just tried my new grinder for the first time and I am a bit confused . I set it on about 12 as recomended for espresso grind and it was way too fine for my La Pavoni lever machine . I kept going higher on the scale and found I had to grind at the coarse end to get a grind that would work ? Has anyone else found this or do you think there is something wrong ?
    Regards Brendan

This sounds "normal" for your type of espresso machine.

Your La Pav. lever machine requires a more coarse grind than is used for conventional electric pump driven espresso machines...and any instructions given with your grinder with reference to esp machines will I expect, be geared towards using it with pump driven esp machines....

With respect, Sunbeam wouldnt know what a lever action espresso machine is or that such a thing even exists !

So it sounds like you have worked it out just as it should be.

    Well done.

    FC.

Thanks , I was worried that maybe my new grinder had a defect but I seem to have settled on a setting now and am enjoying fresh coffee

Hi Brendon. I just bought an EMO480 at Harvey Norman, paid $148.00 for it. I am grinding on setting 9 for my La Pavoni Europiccola. I tamp it very firm and it works great. Rave reviews. Something wrong with your La Pavoni I suspect.
Griffiths Oasis in Melbourne are service agents. I just ha a complete new set of seals put in mine cost under $100.00.
    Cheers.

    Just remember guys...

The EM0480 is a base type unit and the settings are different on most systems.

I have 3 and it is only after I adjust and add or remove washers that I can set them at the same setting... Other wise there can be quite a few clicks difference for each grinder to deliver the same output..

My father and I have this grinder. Mine is about 18 months old, Fathers is about 4 weeks old. Both have Sunbeam 6910. My setting is about 11 Fathers setting is Finest possible grind with hard tamp. I need to re look at the insides of his to check if anything else is different.

Moral of story. Same machine vast differences in settings.

    Hi Goodies,

If you ring Sunbeam they will send out washers to adjust your fathers grinder along with instructions on fitting them. They can also send you a silicon nozzle that fits over the existing one on the grinder (extending & bending it) and cuts down on the mess all over your bench ;) Best of all, as long as youre nice, its all for free :)

    Cheers - Carrie
