    Gday Warren,

Im putting my pennies aside for a Mazzer Kony-E (Doserless with Automatic Dose Control). I reckon it would be very difficult to get a better grinder for the home unless you want to go really big and head for a Mazzer Robur-E... 8-)

Chris from Talk Coffee cant recommend them highly enough so thats got to say a lot about em.... 8-)

    Good call Mal,

I have a Robur-e to keep the Faema happy at the shed and got a Kony-e for home and then later, another to use as the demo grinder at the shed. A major plus is that the Kony-e is much quicker than the Kony- due to a more aggressive burr cut I suspect.

At home, I am presently grinding 6.75 sec for a double which is more than quick enough IMHO. The shed Robur-e is more like 4.5 sec but its big and unless $$$ are no object, overkill for home IMHO.

The shed demo grinder was sold to a CSer last week while I wait for a special import black Kony-e which I reckon will look better beside the GS/3 at home. So after 2x Kony-e, I am happy to go again and its my grinder of choice for home. ;)

One thing to keep in mind is that even at this level, you sometimes see clumping in doserless grinders. Both Kony and Robur will clump, but the clumps are very soft. I dont see this as an issue.

The Compak K10 with a short hopper is also a terrific at home option if youre looking big conical.

I see the Electronic doserless version has now hit the US market. Pricing will of course be better than Mazzer for the Compak if/when it arrives and at circa 530mm with short hopper, its not too big.

    Chris

    Thanks for the replies,

I struck the Robur off the list, too big and $$$$

I was thinking K10 WBC, then thought about the Kony, grinding speed is not an issue as I have a Mazzer Mini now ;)

So, which way now.... K10 or Kony :-/

    Hi Warren,

I had the K10/short hopper combo at home and loved it.

A factor which pushed me towards the Kony-e was ease of use for my partner who can make a very good coffee, but just wants the process to be easy.

I *think* the Kony-e is a touch slower to grind a double than the K10 and its definitely quieter than the K10. The Kony is also 100mm taller than the K10 in short hopper mode. The K10 os 300rpm v 420rpm in the Kony.

Grind quality and resultant shots are excellent with either. You really can choose the one you like... We would of course be delighted to supply either ;-)

    Cheers ;)

    Chris

    I had a laugh...

Weve got 5 metre ceilings and no wall cupboards... anywhere; so height isnt an issue for us :P ;D

5m ceilings, your house must be the height of a cathedral *;) :)
I have 2.5m ceilings without any cupboards to worry about either :)

I dont like the idea of the grinder dwarfing the coffee machine ;)

The WBC with the short hopper will be tall enough at little over 500mm, I still feel it is overkill :-?
I feel anything over that will be just way too big and look silly in a domestic kitchen *:o

Im looking forward to the new toys though *:) ;) :)

    Regards,
    Warren
