    The doser on your grinder

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi

This needed to be in a new thread.

Who here actually uses the doser on thier grinder the way it was intended, ie. fill it up and and dose as required, leaving the remains till the next caffine fix like they would in a café?

    Cheers
    Rich
p.s. this doesnt apply tp me Coz my Rocky doesnt have the cod-piece (doser) ;D

Youve got to be Kidding Richard.....I had a laugh

Ours = 1.5 scoops of beans, grind and get every little bit out into the portafilter.

No, I dont. Id love a doserless Mazzer but they dont make em that way. And they cant be converted to doserless easily either, as the doser chamber forms part of the shroud around the motor (I know, Ive pulled the sucker off!)

    Poundy,

have you seen the mazzer mini e, grinds straight into the pf, downside is itll set you back over $800. Has some sort of measuring system hence the "e" tag but I still cant work out why it should cost more than a regular mini given the doser on the mini must represnt a fair proportion of the overall cost.

Lots of info on mazzer hacks on coffeegeek, one I recall incorporated a stainless steel funnel to replace the doser.

Personally I never use anything from the doser thats been ground more than 5 minutes ago. When I upgraded from a starbucks barista to the mazzer I was pretty annoyed with the doser system but have learnt to live with it.

I just grind what I need and flush any excess out.
I thought that the doser version of the Rocky would be less mess than the doserless, but Im not too sure it was the right choice. I still get a fair amount of spillage (plus flush) and Im not convinced that the design of the doser is the best they could do. You have to go around twice most times.
I might fiddle with it at some point, but for now I just live with it.

The Mini E has a dual timer set-up and I think an override switch to make it stay on.... This to me is the grinder to get, in order of preference Id have a Mazzer Mini E, Rocky, Cunill Tranquilo. But untill people pay their bills Ill have to settle with the Cunill

Hey Rich..........hehehehe sounds like we all know why you dont leave the grinds in the machine......hehehehe

    Well done Snobs ;D

The Mini E has a bigger Burr set as well....but the price is a little harsh.

Just wondering isnt this topic in the wrong forum? surely it goes with the Grinder equipment forum better? :-X

I am getting a 2ndhand cimbali cadet which has an autofilll function that keeps 6 doses in the doser at all times however I am planning to use the on & off switch instead and grind per shot. I shall report back whether its at all convenient that way.

It makes filling bags easier for friends.

Plus who in thier right mind would fill up the doser to let the ground coffee go stale. ???

It is messier tho but clean up is easy with a vac.

With the doser you get to feel like a real barista plus If you are have to make a lot of coffees it would speed things up a little.

    Cheers
    Rich
