    Short Mazzer Hoppers

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi,
long time lurker, first time poster - and I usually hang out a lot at Coffeegeek as do several others Ive noticed. (hi Luca :))

Anyway - I have just acquired a Mazzer Super Jolly second hand at auction - and didnt quite realise exactly how big the thing is until I got it back into my kitchen.
So - for wife-acceptance-factor I think I can get away with shrinking the hopper.

Ive seen various threads here and there where people have cut down their Mazzer hoppers at the level where a replacement doser lid will fit. That is certainly an option as Ill never have 1kg of beans sitting around. (Ill also be doing the tape mod and cup-over-star mods too)

The other option is to see whether I can source a shorter hopper - one from a Mini. I know Diamond C is the Mazzer distributor and I have their details - but I would like to know if anyone has an idea if it is the new-and-improved "short" Mini hopper or not. This would be a neater solution and I quite like the small head look on the Mazzers. Or if Diamond C dont have it - can anyone suggest somewhere local I may find one - or do I need to look overseas?

    Thanks in advance

    Frankie

    Greetings Frankie welcome to CS.

Saeco is the sole Australian Importer so if you telephone them they should be able to answer all your questions.

    Re: Short Mazzer Hoppers

    Hi Guys,

When I decided to get the Mazzer Mini I actually had the shorter hopper already in my possesion. I knew that with the standard one there was no way it would fit under my cupboard so I organised it asap.
It is a bit of a pain but if you cant get one here in Aust try wholelattelove.com (I think that is correct?)
It costs about the same for shipping as it did for the part but it arrived pretty quickly and works a treat. I also considered the cut down but wanted it to look as neat as possible.
Out of interest, I believe they are only selling the Mini with the shorter hopper in the states now.

    Good Luck!

If this all results in an order from the States please let me know. I wouldnt mind the shorter version of the MM hopper.

I asked a Saeco rep about the new shorter hopper at last years Aroma fest, I might as well have been asking about that new subdivision on Mars... but it was relatively new at that time so I wasnt expecting too much.

    Re: Short Mazzer Hoppers

    Thanks muchly 2MCM,
I havent yet got around to calling myself - been busy doing tape mods etc to the Mazzer and OPV on my Gaggia :)

I am still very interested in a short hopper if they are available.
I would also need the matching hopper lid as Im putting this hopper on a super jolly.

From what Ive seen around so far - the original Mini hopper was 7 1/2" tall and the mini-short is 5 3/4".

MInd you - I measure and grind only enough for the few shots I have each day and I am getting used to the look of the Super Jolly with my Pullman tamper sitting over the throat. I gives the illusion that the Gaggia isnt really THAT tiny after all.
