    Mazzer Electronic Grinders

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
After peoples experiences with the electronic range from Mazzer (looking at the major version, is there a super jolly equivalent version of the electronic?) over the the standard doser super jolly?

Its for an office environment, so I was wondering if the electronic version would make it easier for people to get the correct dose with less wastage.

    thanks

frais not VFX- entry is the Major-e

The mini-e has 64mm (SJ sized burrs), but is still very slow. Think 20 sec/double and the analogue grind time adjustment is clunky too..

Ill chuck my two cents in here.
I have a Mini E at home agreed with 2mcm its slow but at home I can wait.
Ive had it for about 3 months and LOVE it so does misus coffeemechanic, I can set the dose and grind for her befor I leave for work and all she has to do is push the button and tamp. Her coffee making skills have improved out of site since we got it and vertually no wastage.
Whichever model you go for I recon E dose is ideal for an office where not everybody is a barista.
There you go your two cents richer :D

thanks for the responses. I think the idea of the grinder going everytime someone has to make a coffee for 20 seconds is probably enough to go a doser version.

A dozer mini is just as slow. The difference being that you can grind some beans, walk away, clean the portafilter, get your milk out for the fridge then come back and click click. Mini e has a portafilter holder so its not really all that different.

I think in an office environment I would much prefer a doserless. Living in a sharehouse im starting to tear my hear out that my flatmates cannot seem to understand how not to leave a doser full of wasted coffee. grrr. dont get me started on the number of times I have scolded them for leaving Silvias steam switch on and just walking away with a half empty boiler grrr. I have lost count of the number of times I have tried to teach them how to get the correct dosage. One of my flatmates says, "I have done a coffee course and worked in a caffe. 2 clicks for a single and 3 for a doube." btw my machine is apparantly crap because it doesnt stop after 60ml. :-[ The others just seem to have an affliction with underdosing and gushers. I think they must prefer it this way though because they wont listen to me.
My advice. Make it as simple as possible.

I hear you for sure. it can be frustrating, at least I dont have to drink it. At work now we have a LaPavoni grinder, i by pass the doser and stick the grouphead right in front of the shoot. "direct injection" I call it. never know how long those ground beans have been there!!

I do have a question bout the doser versions though, they say they automatically start after 6 doses, so does that mean, if each dose is 5-8 grams, even if you set it to the max of 8 gram doses, it will always mean you have at least 25 doses of ground coffee sitting there waiting.

Can you somehow cheat the machine in only filling it up with 100 grams as opposed to the 200 gram max?

Or have i got it all wrong?

Any help in explaining this would be great!

    thanks

Nope. Mazzers have a flap on them that switches the grinder off when when the doser fills up, it then switches back on and tops up. If you like sticking the portafilter in front of the chute, the the auto setup makes this a pain in the arse.

Timer or Manual models are easier in this respect, however you would still need to remove the finger guard, which in a workplace whith oh&s I would be hesitant to do.

Macap and Compak also have doserless models, it really sounds like doserless some kind of electric timer is the best options for you.

Its a bit different in a cafe with trained baristas to a an office with random joes. You are right though legally it there is no difference.

You can slightly push/bend the flap in so it activates the switch earlier.....I did this where i used to work so the doser would only get half full then stop....that was a major though......

I think for what you need the Mini E is perfect.......thats going to be my next grinder when i have too much money... ;D :D

I love my Mazzer Major & I personally prefer the doser version after initially wanting a doser-less conversion
However with a doser version you need to do a couple of handy modifications to make it work a little smoother
