    Will the EM430 suffice??

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I read all the advice on the 480 only to find the 8 was a 3. :( Alternately, I tried using the dual floor filter basket said to be for supermarket ground coffee. It gave slow pour, rats tails and creme to boot. :D Does anyone know if that is the best answer beside getting a 480 or can I adjust the 430 the same as the 480.
    Thanks guys and girls

The dual floor baskets will give fake crema with pretty much any material in them.
I would not think the EM0430 is going to do a comparable job to the EM0450 or EM0480. The 430 looks like a glorified spice grinder to me. This means it will probably only be OK for dual floor baskets and plunger work.

What machine are you pairing the grinder with?

Using a dual-wall basket gives you fake crema, they are designed for using stale pre-ground coffee which is very unlikely to give you crema with an unpressurised basket.

The dual-wall basket forces the coffee to come out of a tiny hole out the bottom of the basket under pressure creating the crema effect.

Sorry I have no knowledge of the 430 other than what I just read on the Sunbeam website.

What coffee machine do you have? Do you have single wall baskets? My best advice is to buy yourself some fresh roasted beans from your local roastery (or off brown bay - see top-left of page). Start buy grinding on your finest setting and using single wall basket. If you choke up your machine thats a good sign! Gradually make your grind coarser until you get a decent pour - as a rough guide 25-30ml in 25-30 seconds.

I have the sunbeam EM6910. I do have the single wall basket and they are what I have used for the past 3-4 years. I do have beautiful freshish beans but my grinder cant grind fine enough. That is how this whole investigation started.

The coffee comes out in about 10 seconds in the single baskets no matter how hard I tamp. BTW can I actually tamp too hard to cause same problem?

Thanks but I think I will have to try and get that 480 after all.

If your on a budget buy a Kyocera Hand grinder. I know Di Bartoli has them and I think one or two other of the sponsors may carry them as well. Takes about a minute to grind a double shot but they do a really good job.

DON"T waste more money on appliance Breville/Sunbeam type grinders would be my call and save some $$ and head for at least a Rocky, Macap etc.

The 430 will make a good grinder for plunger or brewed coffees but not so good for espresso grinds.

Thanks I might go for the manual if you are sure it can be done that quickly and easily. I had one once and I ended up giving it away. Do you know what is their ball park figure.

    Thanks Dawn
