    Macap & Basket Clearance

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I love my M5 to death and have no desire to upgrade at all.

Ive just noticed something last night, though, when I was looking through some videos of dosing and tamping.

The M5 lacks clearance between the basket and the top of the doser so I cant see the actual coffee dosing into the basket and, because of this, I dont get a nice little pile on the top - it usuall flattens out and goes over the edge of the basket. On the videos, there was about a 3cm gap between the basket and the dosing chamber, whereas mine is more along the lines of 75mm.

Has anyone else noticed this and is there a mod you can do to correct it? Or is it just my grouphandle and its extraordinarily tall?

    Cheers

You mean bottom of the doser, right?

I checked my old spouted group handle and it has about 1cm clearance between doser and basket.

I use my bottomless handle mostly so have a bit more room.

Sounds to me like its your group handle.
My old one is the standard one that came with my Expobar.

Sorry, yup, TG - bottom of the doser. :D

The group handle on the Maver is an angled one, so maybe that has somthing to do with it. I wonder if it would be worth trying to bend the forks down a little bit to give a bit more clearance. I might even try just putting the group on the tamper mat and see if thats too much of a distance...

Possibly it is - it holds the Synesso basket that came with my Pullman and theres still a fair amount of distance underneath. Ill go back to the videos and do a visual comparison (soooo accurate!)

On another note, I tried it with the tamper mat and the basket wouldnt fit under the forks and gave a gentle push on the forks themselves but I think they possibly wouldnt budge without a bit of brute force, which I dont want to do and possibly do any damage.

Oh well, I guess Ill just have to put up and shut up!
