    Quick question regarding O/S grinders

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Im new to the site, so sorry if this has come up before. Ive got a mate in the uk willing to sell me his old Mazzer super jolly fairly cheap. Havent seen it in the flesh, but it looks in decent condition.

The stamp on the side says 220-240V, 50Hz, 350Watts. I thought the power supply for the UK was different to ours, but isnt that the same?

My question is (without rewiring, even if it was possible) would I be able to use this out of a normal power socket here in Australia? It would only cost me around 220 pounds including transport, which I think is fair for a grinder like this, esp. since I was intending on buying a mazzer mini soon anyway.

    Anyone got any electrical expertise?

    Gday Stu,
without going into the legalities of certifications, the basic answer is that you would have to change the plug, but it would work here.
The UK has 240V 50Hz power like Australia, but the outlets (power points) are very different.
    Hope this helps,
    Steve.

    Yes it will work
As noted above a plug change is necessary

    Having said that
220 pounds sterling + exchange rate + shipping will work out about the same or more than a similar unit purchased here

    I agree with KK....

Pretty sure you could get similar grinders in similar or better condition for equivalent or even less money, minus all the hassle of shipping from the UK to Oz....

Hmm, really? Id really prefer a mazzer mini or macap M4 but this seemed cheap. Bearing in mind, shipping is going to be about 30 pounds thanks to my girlfriend, who is moving back from the UK next month, would include it in her bulk shipment.

Hmmm, maybe Ill hold out for a mini then. Cheers for the advice.

Ummmm Stu E said that price included shipping......

A quick look at the exchange rate gets GBP 220 to AUD 385 on a couple of websites I looked at........

So even if screwed by the bank your are looking at AUD 400.... :o

Hey Stu, if you dont want it, Ill have it........ ;)

The last SJ that sold on here went for circa AUD 600........ ::)

Re: Quick question regarding O/S grinders

If Im not going to be using it, she wouldnt be terribly interested in bringing it back, sorry... I think, after talking to people at the place I work at, Ive decided to go for something a little more conservative size-wise, and something a little newer. I DID see the SJ on ebay.com.au for 650 and toy with the idea though...

Thanks for the advice, if anyone knows of someone with a Mini or M4 to sell, please let me know. Im keeping an eye on the forum already, now, after missing a few!
