    Compak K6 Silenzio

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi.
Does anyone have any experience with the K6 Silenzio grinder? I was curious as to what design features are used to keep them quiet and a rough estimation as to how quiet they really are in comparison to a Mazzer Mini (for example). *I could not find any web information in the few searches I made recently.

Reason being - making coffee at 6:30am is not mixing particulally well with our sleeping baby :(

At this point in time, I am plan buy a Mazzer Mini for my EM6910, and then a short while later upgrade the SB with something serious such as the Giotto PP (gives me some time to come to grips with the grinding/dosing/tamping side of things before introducing more variables).

But then I spied the K6 Silenzio and was curious...so if anyone can give some feedback it would be interesting to me.

Are they something thats readily available here in Melbourne, or do we need to order? *Do they also come with the WBC doser?

    Thanks very much..

    Hi UM,

YOu need to go to a K8 to get a silencio WBC. At K6 level its WBO or Silencio, but not both.

They are a lot better than the standard grinders and yes, they need to be ordered. I dont see them as significantly quieter than a Macap M4D for example. I am going to make a demo out of one on Saturday morning if youd like a listen.

Try some white noise with the bub. Its been a godsend with ours.

    Thanks Chris. *
Its Julian here (I visited your store a few weeks back)

I suspect the K8 is another leap in all directions over the K6, perhaps a little overkill for me (domestic use only) ??

Based on what you have mentioned previously (please feel free to correct me if I am wrong), the K3-Elite suffers a little in the area of grind adjustment (small amount of movement in the collar before actual movement) - does this improve with the K6 model(s), or do they both share the same adjustment collar?

I certainly liked the M4D, but I think my budget may not strech that far - need some cash reserve for the machine purchase. *Also, I am getting the impression from all these posts that a timed delivery of grind (even with a +-0.1g tollerance) is only relevent for that day/bean/temp/humidity/tounge position. Since I may only make 1-2 cups a day- most of the time (way more in the weekend), then I would need to program the timer every day. *Also, I like the idea of learning the "art" of the doser. *

I would definately be interested in another Demo. *I will try and ring closer to the time and make an appointment.

    Thanks very much

    Julian

    Hi Julian,

Silencio models come at quite a premium over the regular ones and youd be close to M4D $$$ anyway. Sounds like a Mazzer mini manual/Macap M4 brief to me. Theyre both a heap quieter than small conicals.

Hi I picked up a Compak K8 on eBay at a good price a little while ago. *It was sold by Amati Coffee in Melbourne and presumably was originally leased out to a coffee shop etc. *I attach a pic. *It was missing the hopper top cover, *the spill tray and a bean hopper, *The local Wega distributor was most helpful and supplied me with a hopper top cover and *the *spill tray at a reasonable price. *I made a small bean bin out of the top of a cocktail shaker I picked up at the local recycling centre.

Interestingly *the unit spins at 880 rpm which I gather is slower than the current K8. *Can anyone advise if this a special model? *I believe it probably is a Silenzio as it has some internal sound proofing and runs very quietly. *Amati assued me after I bought it that the burrs were in good condition amd a visual inspection on arrival supported this.

I have found it helps to make great coffee with our Diadema Junior Plus. *The only thing I do not like is the doser as it is hard to keep clean like all these units and we *dose on demand. *I was wondering if it could be modded to use the WBC doserless parts. *Are these available as a spare part?
