    Mods for Kony-E

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

Getting clumping with the Kony so looking for a solution. It seems with first shot of the day the grinds come through fluffy till about half way through a double. Looking inside the hopper the wire mesh partially blocks forcing the grinds through the squares. Would it be advisable to remove this mesh? and/or add another wire mesh to the bottom of the cone where the coffee goes into the basket?

    Thank you !

first shot of the day coming through unclumped is the dried out beans left in the grinding chute all night.

Honestly i dont see why clumping is an issue its just the grounds of the fresh beans sticking together because theyre not all dried out IMO

I removed the mesh on mine. I did it more to be able to get a group head brush through the opening to sweep out the chute.

I still get clumps but the they are soft and fluffy and dont seem to effect the shot. If you remove the mesh though, it does tend to make more of a mess and throw the grinds out in a wider cone.

Its not from the night before, thats what the vacuum cleaners for and try a bottomless PF if you think clumpings not an issue. I can work them out and get a clean shot but not without the C/Chop. Just thought there might be a mod fix thats all.

I removed the mesh on mine for same reasons given by "barrel" but I have never experienced genuine clumping with my Kony as the grinds are always light and fluffy, no matter the type or age of the beans.

Rather than clumps, theyre more like little pompoms that fall apart if you even so much as breathe on them and yes, I do use my Naked PF from time to time to ensure my technique isnt falling off a bit - Not a sign of unequal extraction or so-called "sprites" as some people call them. If you remove the discharge chute mesh screen, that might be all that you need to do.... :-? 8-)

    Hi Mal
I thought the difference between doser and doserless might be in the look ie: pom poms or what I called clumpy bits. So if I just tamp and polish as per usual then the pour starts badly and takes longer to centre, sometimes not at all. If I chop and tap the coffee I can get a good shot, but never expected to have to work for it on this level of grinder. Reminds me of my M4. ;D

Try removing the screen and then see how you go.... Easy to do - Just two screws to remove the funnel and once removed, the judicious and dexterous use of a sharp scalpel type blade will have it off. Also very easy to reinstall if you ever want to.

I really dont have an explanation to offer as to why youre experiencing genuine clumping though, as even with the screen in place on mine the grind quality was superb.... :-?

Well thanks all, I removed the static/finger guard thingy and now have absolutely NO clumpy, just a bit of static as mentioned. No mucking around with the coffee now just tamp and polish and clean centred extraction :)
