matching mini mazzer to a VBM

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I have had a VBM machine for some years and now have purchased a mini mazzer grinder. My difficulty is trying to match the grind settings for the single and double shot group heads; also the correct level in the group head before tamping* (mainly for flat white coffees.)
    all help appreciated
    thanks

    Happymark,

I had a miniM matched to my VBM for about a year, till I just upgraded... I found the grind setting for both to be the same ( do you mean single / double spouts or single / double baskets ??? )..

I also started to single dose by weight.* 16 g for my double basket ( I never use the single basket )* With either spout the setting was the same.*

But I did find I could grind a little finer with my naked pf than the spouts..

Im sure others with more wisdom will fill in the gaps* :) :) :) :) :)

I mainly use the single basket for myself and do the occasional double shot with the double basket when making more than one coffee.
My method is the same for single or double.
For consistancy, I heap the basket with coffee, then level it off with my finger so excess coffee falls back into the grinder and I have coffee nice and level with the rim of the basket.
Then tamp with the same force each time.
When making doubles, I usually need to go 1 click finer on the grind so my extraction time is (20-30 sec) similar to the single.

thank you for the information; very useful. I am just about OK with the single shot group head now; fill as suggested and level with my finger or a knife.
On the doubles, I will try it 1 click finer
Any thoughts on avoiding grinding excess beans?
at the moment I judge my counting the grind time; very rudimentary.
    regards

    Re excess grinds,
As you grind and a small mountain of ground coffee begins to take shape, I keep an eye on the size of this mountain. After a while you will learn to judge exactly how much coffee to grind based on the mountain.

Morning Mark, buy yourself a small scale, approx $10 online, and a brush (approx 8mm wide) weigh each and every shot and sweep the feed area, delivery chute and doser after each use, 18 grams in near enough to 18 grams out.
I know it sounds like a bit of messing around but in fact it only adds seconds to making a coffee and consistency will improve out of sight. ;)
