    KG100 Burrs

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi Guys.

Does anyone know if/where (preferably in Sydney) you can buy replacement burrs for the KG100/Solis 166 grinder and can they even be replaced. I know its probably not worth it, but I cant yet afford a Mini. *:(

    Hi Flo...

Ive got a KG100 which long ago was relegated to Plunger coffee grinding.

I did the mod so you can adjust it for finer grounds (worked but the resulting grounds were of poor consistancy)... :(

As far as I can remember the burrs are moulded into plastic carriers, and I suspect are not designed to be replaced..... And as you said, would probably cost more than the machine is worth (I think I paid $99 for it)

Whilst talking to repairers of coffee machines and associated equipment over here (Perth) yesterday, they said that they now refuse to do any repairs on domestic grade machines and grinders....

If they can get the spares (and that is a big IF) they are so expensive that customers refuse to pay....

Its wonderful this "throw away age" >:(

Yep, new grinder is probably the go!

Yeh, I use mine for Plunger and decaf grinding only... and that is pushing its limit as it is...

It can grind fine enough, its just the consistancy where it falls down.. I checked out the difference with the EM0480 and its mind boggling.

Flo, theres no way around it... its upgrade time :)

    Re: KG100 Burrs

Ive pretty much decided to get an Iberital Challenge to replace our KG100 - unless we can be convinced its the wrong decision. The only problem is that Di Bartoli only has them in silver and my wife wants red. ;D

My wife poured, onto a saucer, some coffee ground on the KG100 and some Robert Timms espresso blend we bought to try in the "new" Solis SL90 machine. The Timms was finer in grind than the KG100 and more consistent in size.

As an aside, when we went to the supermarket to get some commercially ground coffee to test in the Solis, we noticed that very little was labelled as suitable for an espresso machine. Nearly everything is marked as suitable for drip, plunger, and moka pot. Even the stuff we bought was labelled as suiting several different methods of coffee making. I cant see how that can be.

Well probably relegate the KG100 to plunger duty. My wife drinks it for breakfast and I grind a batch each day to take to work for my plunger cup (a cup with an in-built plunger. I work relief so I dont have a locker or desk I can leave stuff in - it all has to be carried from site to site).

    Ron
