Do you mean the tape mod to make the sweep more efficient?
I have done it and it works fairly well, but I was going to clean the whole Rocky this weekend, so Ill try to take some pics.

    Yeah that would be great!!

Its a shame that such a good grinder is let down by something the company could have fixed quite simply.

Thanks, I look forward to seeing the pics.

    Re: Rocky - Doser Mod

    OK.
I cleaned my Rocky this weekend and as part of the clean, I decided to re-do my tape mod. Here is my attempt at a picture tutorial. Hope it makes sense.

First step is to remove the doser fins and separator.

The bottom half of the doser fins is where the mod is made. Turn this upside down to work on.
It is important that you are aware of the correct orientation of the doser fins when doing this mod. Remember that the tape needs to be on the front of the fin.
Cut a piece of tape that is approx 20mm longer than the fin. Stick it on the fin so that there is exposed sticky side showing about 20mm past the edge and 15mm past the bottom.
    Front (upside down) view:

    Back (upside down) view:

I then trim the tape to match how I am going to fold it:

I then fold the horizontal (sorry - its a bit fuzzy)

    I then fold the vertical

I repeat this process for 3 of the 6 fins. This is how it looks when done:

When putting the doser back together, be mindful that the tape needs to settle under and behind the fins. This can be a little fiddly, but youll figure it out.

Keep in mind that this is just how I do it. You might come up with a better idea. However, I find that this does a pretty good job once installed.

    Hope its useful.

    Brett.

Just Wondering if you could get a hold of the sliding glass windo/door fibre and use this as a brush and this would be a more durable idea (the fibre is not an abrasive material), but as I havnt tried it, it might just be a pie in the sky idea.

    FB,
I reckon there are a lot of things you could try in this situation.
Ive thought about using pipe cleaners, brush bristles and weather strips to name a few, but the tape seems to do a servicable job. The method/design could be better, but for 10 cents of tape, its a pretty good return. ;D

Ive done the mod as described but used velcro (the fluffy side) instead of tape. *It sweeps pretty well but looks fairly mucky after a while - but its cheap and comes off if you want to replace it every so often. *If you get any glue residue, just clean of with white spirits then let it dry before reapplying fresh velcro.

You may also want to remove the silver plate - stops it working as a doser (you can always put it back in later if you have to) but this lets you sweep clean in 3 or 4 clicks as against 12 with the plate on.

I too have used velcro, but I used the other side (not fluffy) as that was all I had in the house. Never thought about removing the plate though......great suggestion.

I did have had the separator out for about 3 months. I just put it back in when I did the clean. I felt that I was getting more spillage without it there, but as Mick says, it does allow you to clear out in 4 clicks. I suppose it is a trade-off. Ill leave it in for a while and see how annoying it gets.

This morning I used the doser without the plate. First impressions are positive. This method is certainly quicker.

    Re: Rocky - Doser Mod

Pardon my ignorance but doesnt the Velcro get clogged with coffee grounds thus defeating the purpose of the mod or am I just being pedantic?

Yes the velcro does get clogged with grounds but they stay on the velcro and it doesnt end up in the basket.

Mine stays pretty clean...maybe because Im using the non-fuzzy side. I have no complaints.

    Re: Rocky - Doser Mod

tried it, didnt like it, took off the mod....

this was done on a la cimbali cadet (fairly complicated taking off all the stuff and putting it back on)

the cimbali doser is a pretty good design and keeps the inside pretty clean

    Re: Rocky - Doser Mod

Sorry about digging up an old post but have a few questions about this Mod,

I recently got hold of a used Rocky with Doser, *after pulling apart and giving it a good clean I thought I would add this Mod onto it. *The only tape I could get hold of at short notice 9:30 last night was Packaging tape. *After I made the mod I gave it a test run, *although it was cleaning alot more it was still leaving too many grounds for my liking. *
I am thinking that Packaging tape isnt rigid enough and perhaps I should try something else. *

Im just wondering what other people are using?

On another note I noticed that the distance between the doser fins and the edge of the doser varies as it goes around, *infact the greatest gap was directly under the chute which is probably the worst place. *I dont have a Feeler gauge but the distance was noticable, id say around 2mm. *Im not sure if other people have this problem, and all it does is make the finding suitable material to make this mod a bit more difficult, as it needs to be able to compress at the smaller distance and be able to spring out and be still be able scrape the grinds from the side at the largest distance. *This is currently not happening with the Packaging tape I used.
