    Who has a Nemox Lux?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Does the Nemox Lux have the name "Nemox" on the front of the machine? I saw this in the DJ catalogue, but when I searched it on the Net, it doesnt have the name on it. Are they different models?

    Thanks.

Mine has the "Nemox" on the front. I think the Nemox and the Lux are just badged differently. I could be wrong, but every pic Ive seen of "Lux" grinders looks the same as the Nemox.

Yeah ... Im pretty sure that a lot of people sell essentially the same grinder. The Isomac grinders and the unico splendor grinder look like luxes with fancier pants.

There "may" now be a cheaper and better (doesnt scream like a banshee) option from Sunbeam: http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/worldregional/australasia/192338?LastView=1133485554&Page=2

The ones I am talking about look identical - one without the Nemox badge (or sticker) on the front, its called MACINA caffe LUX, it has NEMOX at the bottom of the box, whereas the one in the DJ catalogue , the picture has the Nemox on the front.

So does anyone know if they are the same??

Oops, its my oversight! The picture on the box has no badge, but the machine inside does have it. I suppose most retailers use the picture on the box, thus the cosmetics difference. Thanks anyway.

    Too right AlMac,

Looks like Sunbeam have paid attention to the areas of importance with this one and appears to be particularly well made. Definitely worth keeping an eye on as a prospect for newbies wanting to upgrade ;) from a whirly-blade thing-a-ma-jig.

Having never used one I kindly suggested to a friend who was after a best cost grinder (originally suggested Lux) that he give the Sunbeam a go. Will have to take a look at it when he picks one up.

You can get them from DJ now. Not sure if your local DJ would have them, but its in their current catalogue. The city stores should have them. I read somewhere that someone saw them in Myer as well. Again, probably the city stores.

Hi all -- Im a newcomer looking for a grinder to go with my Saeco Via Venezia machine. I was all set to get the Lux, especially with DJ having them on sale, but this new Sunbeam looks interesting. Id love to hear from anyone whos picked up one of the Sunbeams, or if anyone has any other suggestions that I should look at.

Theres always another option -- elbow grease instead of electricity. A manual burr grinder. Doesnt take much effort to convert 20 grams of beans into powder.

Re: Who has a Nemox Lux?

    Hey all,

Got one of these for my Xmas present (yes, I am spoilt), and I cant believe the difference that it has made to my coffee.

Matched to a Gaggia Classic, and replacing a blade grinder, it has taken all of the bitterness out of the coffee, and allowed more of the natural sweetness (I think that is what you would call it) to come out.

I did some taste tests as well, comparing the different grind settings through the machine, and even to my very untrained pallet it made a difference.

    One happy camper!

Special shout out to all of those on this forum who contribute to n00bies like myself, with the eternal which xxxx should I buy: invaluable advice, which has set me on the path to the lux, and a better coffee experience! Thanks one and all!

    :)

Enjoy the new grinder, ona rampage.

Out of interest, what setting on the grinder gives a good shot time for the Gaggia Classic?

    Cheers,

    Hey Robster,

Around the 1 setting at the moment, altho I am still experimenting. Just bought a new tamper as well, to replace the crappy plastic one that came with the machine, so still very much in the experimentation phase.

Anyone with a recommendation BTW, please feel free to put it up!

    Cheers

Re: Who has a Nemox Lux?

    Hey all,

Just a silly question re the Lux, and disassembly (and I appologise if this has been discussed before); how do you take it apart, to say clean it?

I take it that the little screw on the hopper needs to be removed/wound in, so the hopper can be screwed off?

    Cheers

    Yep, you guessed it,

    Hope this helps ;D

For a start Lawrence you quoted a 4 month old post, so the catalogue would be at least that old by now.

Oops, sorry, I didnt see the date of the very first post of this thread. ::)

I guess David Jones have reverted back to selling mainstream products to the public rather than the specialised stuff. *Which is a shame really, coz the Krups, Brevilles and Sunbeam products are not reflective of the higher image that this store aspires to. :(

Ah well, nevermind, Im now keen on the Compak T3 Touch grinder, which theres no hope for DJ to carry or source. The reason why I was hoping that DJ would carry specialised coffee machines and grinders is because I have a gift voucher with the store which Id like to redeem. ;D

Back to the original question, is the Nemox Lux any good as an espresso grinder?

Anyone got links that I can read up on this grinder?

Entry level and with pretty big steps- At this level, get a Iberital challenge (similar but with stepless adjustment..)..With grinders, you pretty much gets what you pays for...

Hi Chris, Im getting that same feeling about the Nemox Lux, i.e. you get what you pay for.

According to this article, the Nemox Lux has the same burr set, so I suspect that over time, the Nemox Lux will have the same issues as the EM0480, i.e. grinds get coarser and coarser or simply inconsistent.

David Jones say that they can order in the Nemox Lux for $269 if I wanted it, but now Im not so sure if I want one.

Its easier for me to convince my spouse to buy a grinder from DJ as I have a gift voucher in my hands, but if I have to shell out lots of money and not be able to use my gift voucher, its gonna be a harder sell job for me to my wife. :-/

    Lawrence...

    You have two choices....

Go to an appliance shop and buy a "domestic" grinder appliance - poor quality, no support after a short time will turn into a waste of money.... but you get to use your voucher...

    OR

Go to a site sponsor.... get a real quality grinder from someone who knows what they are selling, great support and ongoing service on an item which will last you a lifetime.... and your wife can spend the voucher on a dress....

Normal retail shops DO NOT SELL QUALITY COFFEE EQUIPMENT!!!!!

I had a laugh! I like that idea - give the wifey the voucher and I can get a real grinder. :)

Ive always gone on the philosophy of "Can I afford not to have the best?" as my logic is that if I buy something substandard, itll not do the job and that would be money wasted.

So I do agree wholeheartedly with your comments. And I do appreciate it too.

(Just quietly, my wife doesnt have the same thought processes....) :(

I reckon that true entry level for grinders- quality and longevity considered is the Rancilio Rocky...Cheaper grinders are more appliances and will last a few years before you throw them out...Set a budget, Lawrance and then purchase the grinder that best suits your needs after getting some quality advice...

DJs know as much about coffee as I know about running a department store chain so spend your voucher on some clothes for your wife and buy a decent grinder! :P ::)

Im quite partial to stepless adjustment. The main downsides to the Iberital are noise, and how long it takes to change from espresso to plunger grind size. If youre just going to be drinking espresso, then by all means go with the Iberital. If you can afford the best, go with the K10 or Robur.

    Hey Chris,

Maybe you could start selling make-up and fashion accessories etc....

You probably know as much about these items as the retail shops know about coffee equipment!

And how many people would go to an outlet called "Talk Coffee" to buy such items???? Well then why do they consider going to a normal retailer to buy specialist Coffee Items??????

    Beats me :o :o :o :o
