    Rocky skips a beat?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    ???
My Rancilio Rocky Doserless grinds intermittently. It will be grinding fine and then just stop producing ground coffee. The motor still works and I can feel the inertia of the rotor spinning. Itís like turning it on with no beans in it, but there are beans in it. Iím loath to thump it, but nothing short of a two handed shake seems to get the beans in contact with the grinder plates. Then its back to normal. Not very handy when Iím half way through filling up the PF.

It doesnít happen very often, this is maybe the third or fourth time in two months. Could the cause be to do with irregular bean sizes in a blend mix?

    Any ideas?

Do you still have the black plastic finger guard in place? I remove it because that allows easier brush cleaning and also a gentle beans pushing. BTW, are your beans oilly? Usually, I need only a gentle knock at the hopper to get the beans flow again.

Previous poster hit the nail on the head..atleast, it is the first nail to check. Are your beans oily. This tends to allow the beans to hang up against eachother and kind of get bogged up in the throat of the grinder (bottom of hopper).

All you need do when this happens is use the handle of your grinder cleaning brush to kind of stir the beans around in the hopper, and they will start to flow through again.

be careful removing the finger guard its there for a reason. My rocky does it on occasion too. Not having the finger guard in place helps but NEVER stick anything in there when its running.

    Thanks for the advice snobs,
Beans are not oily, well not noticeably oily. I opted to leave the finger guard in place and finger prod the beans a little. If a munched finger was going to happen, it would definitely happen to me :o. Though I have learned over time, to unplug things before any prodding occurs. ;).

Im glad no one has said "its broken, take it back", then what would I do, cant go back to drinking dirt while I wait for a repair.

    Cheers

After the cause suggested by Tangotim was the culprit, I now keep the grinder cleaning brush handy for proding the beans if they get stuck.

    Cheers men.
