    Vacuum Cleaner for Grinder

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight

What do you guys recommend for vacuuming inside the K3 ::)

Is this battery operated mini vacuum cleaner from Dick Smith any good?

A lightweight hand-held vacuum thats ideal for cleaning dust and dirt from electrical equipment such as computers, stereos and cameras. Comes with brush attachment and collection bag. Requires 4 x "AA" size Alkaline batteries.
    Cat No. T1700

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I use a "Belle" 240 volt mini vacuum. I modified the nozzle to reduce its size and it gets into the nooks and crannies of my Mazzer easily. I do this after each session. I empty the grounds each weekend.

    Great solution.

    Cheers,
    Paolo

    Thanks Paolo *:)

The only Belle I can find is on eBay for around $89 *:(

Is that the price you paid for yours, and what mod did you do to the nozzle?

I picked up a mini attachment set for the vacuum cleaner.
Got it for $1 at Vinnies.
    Looks like this:

Try some junk shops or search online and you might find one for about $10 or less if youre lucky.

    Hi Rusty,
Mine was $15 (new) from a shop called Panatech. I inserted a small cut-out (and well-washed) plastic 25ml Betadeine bottle into the end of the vac hose and attached some pvc tubing to that....works like a charm!

I see you are on the Central Coast so I presume the Panatech you refer to is the one in either Tuggerah or Newcastle ::)

I have just used the hose from a standard vacuum. I take off the bean hoopper, put the nozzle of the hose in the mouth of the inlet and turn on the vacuum.

    Works a treat.

Yep this is awesome, I think fatboy originally gave me this tip and it does a very good job. I did buy a mini vac but it did not have the grunt needed.

    Re: Vacuum Cleaner for Grinder

I just did a clean of my Macap, first one ever, after reading a few threads on cleaning and i didnt realise how much build up occurs from general grinding.

I was a bit unsure at first but then realised that its not that difficult to take the top bur and assembly off so i could get in and clean everything..

I will be cleaning on a much greater frequency and suspect if i do it very regularly the process will be a breeze.

I found that using the vac on both blow and suck help dislodge many of the grounds stuck in there.

Careful with blowing--you have no idea where some of the grinds will end up.

    Hi Rusty

I got a 4 AA cell vacuum cleaner from Dick Smith for my grinder and took it back to DS for a refund. They were fine and gave me the refund. Its the first time I returned a product because it **didnt** suck! It could not even pick up coffee grounds.

Given they blew out into the dosing chamber, is this an issue?

If you are using a blower that takes 8 or 10 seconds to blow out 19 grams of coffee, maybe not. Although the grounds really spin out with centrifugal force. I see a different possible scenario to using a 1500 watt blower. Im afraid of finely ground coffee flying into delicate electronics and into the internals of the electric motor.
