As I thought, due to the importer of Compak going into liquidation, their parts are very difficult to find. :( Just upgraded to a giotto today, and my grinder isnt pulling its weight.

    Hey Ashleigh

    Congratulations on your Giotto purchase.

How long have you had the K3T and did you run decaf through it? Those burrs should last a long, long, time so unless youve run a fair bit of coffee through it, Id be suprised to find they need replacing. :-/

Having said that, I think Chris announced a few days ago that Expobar have been appointed as the new importers for Compak.

    Hi Ashleigh,

As Den mentioned, Expobar will be the new importer but parts are a few weeks away Id guess...

You can do a burr check. If you run a finger nail against the edges, you should think that you could probably shave the nail away if you wanted to. If you feel rounded edges, its time.

Normally, you should get up to 400kg from a burr set unless youre grinding unleaded ;)

Enjoy that new Giotto. It was a pleasure looking after you guys *8-)

Re: Finding new burrs for Compak K3T

Ive probably had the grinder 2 years, But I have been noticing a really odd ashy, harsh flavour. I have experience this flavour before on dull grinder blades at a cafe i worked at previously.

I also brushed the burrs today, and they didnt feel very sharp. Maybe they have been inadvertently subjected to a stone and i havent realised??

At the end of the day, I am looking for new burrs. will get in touch with Expobar, and hopefully the will already have the parts. Thanks for your help Dennis.

Fair enough. Am presuming you havent switched coffee. If theres a delay getting them you might give Grindz tabs a go. Wont resharpen the burrs, but a small investment to make that could help with those flavours youre experiencing.

    Cheers!

    Hi Ashleigh;

Compack and Wega Instant are the same grinder, we have blades in stock if you need it.

    Hi Renzo,

I thought the Wega was a rebadged Compak, but i read that the burrs on the Wega are 54mm and the Compak is 58mm.

    So would they be interchangeable?

Thanks for all your help guys,
    Ashleigh

No Ashleigh, they wont suit. Wega are produced in both 54 and 58mm and configuration varies according to supplier.

Re: Finding new burrs for Compak K3T

    Just an update,

Seeming as though I cannot get my hands on burrs at this time, I decided to take Dennis advice and try some Grindz. Thanks to Renzo at DiBartoli, got them in a flash! Used last night, cleaned the burrs quite well. However, I had to put through about 100g of coffee to clear the residue.

Taste was OK, but still had some "ashy-ness" to it. Better flavours than before, but will try to get my hands on some burrs ASAP.

    Thanks again to everyones advice,

    Ashleigh
