    Need a finer grind a breville bcg450

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I bought a breville Bararoma BCG450, I havent seen to many post on this grinder yet, it does a perfect grind for a single shot but as soon as i use the double basket i am not extracting the same flavour as i already have it on the finest grind setting, I use a em6910 to express my coffee, any thought eg maybe using a smaller basket remembering the 6910 has a double floor *basket
    Thanks Quen131 :-?

Quen the 6910 comes with 4 baskets.
2 double floored (single and double) and 2 single floored (single and double).

If what I read means you are using the double floored baskets, for a start I dont understand why, if you are grinding your own beans, other than you realise that the Breville grinder is not able to grind fine enough for the single floored baskets.

Assuming (dangerous) that you are aware of this, then you should also know that the grind setting should make no difference whatsoever using a double floored basket.
Fine or course, single or double basket, the pressure is controlled by the one little hole exiting the bottom of the basket.

The only conclusion I can make with the information youve supplied so far is that your double floored double basket is faulty.

What do you mean by "i am not extracting the same flavour "?
How fast is the pour using the single?
How fast is the pour using the double?

You threw me with your comment above.

    Makes more sense now.
The Breville grinder WILL NOT grind fine enough for the single floor baskets.
You need a better grinder; at a minimum the Sunbeam 0450.

Using the double floor baskets in not ideal but may be your only option until you get a better grinder.

    Hi quen131,

The breville bar aroma grinder will not work with the em6910 unless you intent on using those double floor (crap) baskets. You need a commercial grade grinder or something on the lines of em 450/480.
Usually you can find a second hand commercial grade grinders around the price of a new 450/480. They will be a lot more consistent and outlive the sunbeam grinders. :)

    Anu
personallly the double floor basket i agree with you great crema noflavour so whats the point, try a heavy tamp eg 60kg still not enough , so since my budget wont allow a new grinder at the moment ive modified the breville so it go further around for a finer grind, ordering a small double basket as the 6910 has a bigger one than normal and try a different bean, as it stand now i can get a perfect shot with the single basket
    thanks Quen131

Glad to see you modified your breville and are getting grind fine enough. I bought a breville bar aroma grinder some time back. I modified it but still the grind would not work with a single floor basket. No matter how hard i tamped the shot would just run too fast.
