quote for repairs on a Rocky D/L

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hey All,
Need a little help, in the "Great Melbourne Storm" of the 6th March my house was flooded, and one of the unfortunate victims of the storm was my beloved Rocky (got a good old fashioned soaking ;D). i am currently battling with insurance companies to have her back to full working order. What i am wondering, is if there are any site sponsors that if i put up pictures (and explane the problems) would be able to give me an idea of a quote of possible repairs? As at the moment i am not quite sure on where to go to get a quote.

Note: if i have broken any site rules with this post please take it down, however i am happy to put up the pictures to show what storm force water does to a Rocky ;D....think your household Shower + Mud. pics to follow tonight!!

    Cheers

    Paul

Should be more than a few site sponsors over there <------- that could give you a quote and any Melbourne based CSers should beable to point you in the right direction. I think they would want to see the grinder first hand, especially if insurance companies are involved. Also get them to quote a new Rocky for insurance to help your fight.

We will be interested in your photos. That storm looked really bad on the news.

Hmm...water and electrics dont go well and that makes me think write off. $500 in parts and labour will not get you all that far on a repair...At the very least, you will need to return it to the importer or an authorised repairer if its been wet.

Time to play hard ball with your insurance company.

i have not swiched her on in awhile, however as you can see... the grinder plates are rusting and when i turned her on the motor sounded weak however, it might just have been the wet mush that was slowing her down...now dry mush :).

Dont turn the power back on again DD... A very risky thing to do in this situation. Im with the other guys, it would not be economical to attempt to repair and should just be discarded. Given that an insurance company would request a number of quotations to back this up, I guess you have no choice to but keep them happy. You really need a motor rewind shop that also do appliance type repairs to provide the quotes, no-one else would be qualified....

    Thanks Mal,
thinking about it, *i might actually just e-mail the place i bought the combo from, and give them the details and pics and see if they can give me run down on possible costs, the insurance company will have a differcult time arguing if i go back to the source of original purchase....i hope anyway. *;D

have they actually asked for a "repair" quote or just "quotes"

if just "quotes" just get a replacement quote from 3 sources and send them that,

at $60+ an hour on average plus parts replace could be a lot cheaper....

i have a 20 week old saga (claim) with an insurer of mine right now....
actually they have been good, just the saga has been 20 weeks.... :-/

yeah, see i get the feeling in my case its someone sitting behind a desk who gets a morning cup of coffee from the local shop and has never actually even seen a coffee grinder before, so as far as they are concerned it looks fine and i am just being difficult and demanding. That or some boss has said you have to keep to budget, so make it as difficult as possible for people to claim :). *

Having worked as an insurance claims officer in two countries, and having a claim for damages from our recent electrical storm in processing, let me say this:

You will need an assessment for insurance purposes. It must state the likely cause of the damage (the insurance co. will determine if it is covered--note: flood is a common exclusion!), the cost of repairs and the cost of replacement.

The cost of the assessment is covered if the item itself is covered.

    Good luck.

But "Inundation" is normally covered and Flooding has a number of classifications too....

    Water from the sky =Normal * *

Water pouring in from roof after gutter has filled with hail = not normal :)

    my two cents again *;D

but yeah should all be fine, i think i am just starting to hit the "serious coffee withdrawal stage". once this matter is all cleared up. then its upgardits time...the one good thing out of all of this is it has finally pushed me to look "bigger, Better, Shiner" :)
