K3 Elite advice sought by newbie user

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Ive just unpacked my new K3 Elite and have discovered that the supplied manual doesnt match the unit. For the life of me I cant discover how to alter the grind. Where the manual describes a styling roller, there is actually a hidden screw to secure the hopper. Im obviously missing something obvious but just cant see it. Ive also done a web search including the Compaq website but can only find instructions which match the manual but not the grinder itself.

I assume Ive got a new model and the manufacturer hasnt caught up with its instruction manual. Are there any other snobs out there who have taken possession of a new K3 that can point me in the right direction?

You need to move the entire black collar Le Flaneur.

The bit you are viewing is just to secure the hopper. I have sent email also...;)

    cheers

For the benefit of those who are tentative, naive or cautious about breaking anything (tonight I fit all of these categories) the following advice might be useful!

Firstly seek advice from this forum (thanks Chris from Talk Coffee for helping me out)

Secondly, when you try to rotate the black collar to adjust the grind on the K3 Elite there is a short extent of free-play which terminates with a sound like the collar is hitting a metal limiter. This appears at first glance to be the full extent of the collar movement. Chris encouraged me to use more effort and on doing so I found the resistance to movement of the collar suprising. In hindsight it is reassuringly stiff as it takes a bit of effort to change the grind setting chosen. But I was a bit nervious of exerting any force and didnt get past the short space of free-play in the collar.

It really needs two hands to turn the collar or use of the hopper screw body extension for leverage if one hand is used to move the collar.

Ive now experimented with a couple of settings and have ground some beans at a relatively coarse setting to use at work. With my first finer grind for the (also new) Giotto Ive discovered Im going to need some experimentation but that is part of the fun of this. Ive managed to get quite a good (but not perfect) puck and the pull was good enough to consume. Im happy with my first efforts and very pleased with my new toys.

Thanks to Chris and Talk Coffee
