Compak K10 Fresh (doserless) discussion thread

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hello all,

We have just received confirmation that these have an ETA into Australia mid-late November. Estimated retail price large hopper is circa $2.85k. For those with tight space, this baby will be well under 500mm tall with an optional gourmet hopper. We are accepting pre-orders now.

It looks as though there will also be a K8 fresh model, presumably to compete with the Mazzer Major-e.

    Specifications as follows:
    • Stepless micrometric grind adjustment
    • Extremely low burr speed of 300 rpm
    • 68 mm conical burrs
    • Power 760 watts
    • Volts 220-240V
    • On/Off switch
    • Weight approx 16kg
    • Digital timer

8-) Starting with a vital question, available in Black and Silver options? Does the timer read in seconds or an attempt at gram conversion?

    Gday bf,

US spec is all black, but everything Compak coming into Melbourne is platinum (silver)...My instinct says silver, but Im awaiting a definitive answer.

Dose is via time, adjustable in 1/100th second increments.

seriously that expensive? The original k10 was never that expensive. The price difference between a regular robur and a robur-e is not that much different is it?

Looks like a sexy grinder....nice and sleek. I may be in the market for one. Can I play around with one when you land them Chris? Id be interested in doing tests with scales.

    Yeah.... :o

Sounds a bit exy to me too. I guess demand will determine whether its going to be a winner at that price. As you say Dave, it looks pretty good (but I still love my Kony-E).... ;D

Re: Compak K10 Fresh (doserless) discussion thread

Ive been ruminating over conical grinders while waiting for my GS/3 to be delivered (10 weeks and counting :()
My mind and heart are telling me Elektra Nino, but the wallet doth protest...so Ive been waiting for this version of the K10 to come out...its about 1 K cheaper than the Nino. My understanding is that the Nino has very little grind retention, and this appeals to me. I single dose, so the digital timer doesnt matter to me at all.
My question re the K10 Fresh is...does anyone know how this version compares to the Elektra in terms of grind retention ??
    Cheers

Interesting, optional pressure? based tamper option. Love it, password protect your grinder too *;D

    an eval. unit
Sounds like me and my toys, advanced product testing (when you take it home for "testing"), advanced product promotion (when you show someone else how cool it is) Got to love working in an industry you love :)

Will be up for a serious play before Christmas if you get one Chris *8-)

Im always interested in an upgrade. (Yes, I know its a disease. ;D )

And I think a conical is the next (logical?) step.

And with the Aussie $ on the up, now would appear to be a good time.

Please keep us up to date.

I have ordered one for evaluation today.

There are just 12 coming to Australia in November and production of the next batch will commence in Spain in January. I guess this means we may not see any more in Australia until mid 2011...

If we manage to snag one, youll be most welcome to come for a play bf *8-)

Re: Compak K10 Fresh (doserless) discussion thread

12 "sample units" have arrived this week into Oz. Most have gone to dealers as demos, but one happy mystery CSer has the first one in the wild....

We managed to get one to play with as well and santa has let me take it home for the break to see how it stacks up against the Kony-E. Ill most likely take it back to the shed in the new year and it can then go hread to head against the Robur-E. Its displayed with very exxy optional gourmet hopper * :o. Apols for the dodgy phone pix...

At 5 shots in, grind time appears to be circa 5 sec for a double. Menu is pretty easy to manage and intuitive.

    Have a great break all!

Re: Compak K10 Fresh (doserless) discussion thread

A few days in now and this thing has some serious grunt!

Very tweakable and were still in the 5 sec zone/double...Id expect low 4s once 10kg or so have passed through it.

The nice thing is with the short hopper- which adds about $100 if you give up the big hopper, youll fit under the cupboards as its 500mm high...but, and its a massive but- retail would be nigh on $3k *:o

Will it oust the Kony-e? *:-?

At this stage, I think not as the Kony-e meets my needs really well and I have space for it (>100mm taller) and the couple of seconds longer for a double is insignificant at home.

Gotta say though, I prefer the look of the Kony-E to the K10-E (in our kitchen at least)....

$3000 Aus/U.S. for the K10 E!! *How much does the K10WBC sell for over there?? *They run $1200 delivered here & that includes the short hopper. The previous K10 Digital goes for around $1600.

    Gday John.... :)

You guys have the benefit of a huge user market mate and that affects the bulk buy price and then the end-user buy price. Our market is very, very small by comparison so Id reckon we can only buy in to the country by the unit, not a bulk importation.

Have you seen/used one of these John? Would be good to hear from other users.... 8-)

I use a K10WBC every day & love it but no experience with any of the electronic/doserless grinders.

Looks like the U.S. distributor has set a $2000 "list" price on the Fresh which should translate to an $1800 street price.

Be good if Macap put out an M7D - ie a conical doserless grinder with same controls as an M4D. *

Attilio, Chris - get on the blower to Macap and see what you can do!

    ;D

    Sniff

EDIT: Ooops, seems there is one already?

Re: Compak K10 Fresh (doserless) discussion thread

Oton asked a specific question about the K10 Fresh

I read that coffee grounds are hot... And it clumps... Any comments?

The heating of grounds I had read and talked to a user (also one of the sponsors here) about were in a fairly busy cafe situation and were in comparison to a Robur so unlikely to ever be a problem for a home user or even in most cafes for that matter.

Dont like clumping get a dosered grinder

Re: Compak K10 Fresh (doserless) discussion thread

    My verdict -

    No clumps
    Quick and quiet
    Less mess than a doser
    Great hopper
    Fun and easy to use
My wife likes its looks and using it

Not used the timer much yet but came from a doser so Im used to eyeballing - so I time 3/4, tap then top up, level and tamp.

Grind retention is noticeable but no worse than my old Macap M4 or the major I had for a while, and its much easier to flush the old grinds without doser.

Ive been asked about the exit chute on the K10 Fresh. From what I can I see its a pretty straight chute all the way from the grinding chamber. Ive attached a bad phone photo, but hopefully it helps.

    Hello All,
Just wondering if anyone has a photo they could post of the Campak K10 Fresh from above, looking down at how the hooper fits onto the grinder body and also of the burrs from above?

What are we looking at in the exit chute photo? It seems pretty clear the feed mechanism has been changed from the regular K10 model and its large grind chamber and sweepers. Are those the sweeper vanes? Have they greatly decreased the size of the grind chamber like the Elektra Nino?

I am dying to see inside a K10 Fresh. I cant find a parts list anywhere, and there are no photos from owners yet :(
