    Grinder suited to Rancilio Sylvia

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi crew, I am new to coffee snobs and wish to ask a question. My wife recently bought me a new Rancilio Sylvia to replace my old domestic Brevile unit. I have a Delonghi KG100 grinder and even after having done the mod recommended to get the grind as fine as possible it is still too coarse for the Rancilio, the flow is way too fast. I am now looking at purchasing a new grinder and it seems people are having good success with the Breville BCG800 and Sunbeam Em0480. Will I be able to grind down fine enough with these grinders or do I need to look at a commercial grinder. I am am cautious now with purchasing another domestic grinder due to the Delonghi under performing so badly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

if your budget can stretch i would suggest you go further say $450: the em480 ( cant speak for the breville) is OK but if buy a better unit you will not regret the extra spend.

Also the EM480 is fairly noisy. I now use mine for decaf and its slow, noisy and feels pretty rank against the M4D.

    Hi satchwine and welcome,

Do buy the best you can afford. The Breville is good, the Compak K3P way better. In between are plenty of other good grinders.

With grinders, you really do get what you pay for. Both of those I mentioned punch above their weight in my opinion.

    Good luck!

    Chris

    Short answer, "yes"

Longer answer "Sunbeam EM0450/0480 is the minimum level for a decent espresso grind. The Breville is currently regarded as one of the best buys under $400. Both are recommended, and are quite capable of serving with your Silvia"

    Just a little point:

Your delonghi is not "under performing". Its simply not designed / suited to the new task that you have asked it to perform ;)
