    Pimp your grinder!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Ok so I couldnt think of a better name and stole that name from a mate.
Being one to modify or "tim taylor" *a product, seeing a mates ibertal challenge gave me an idea.
The pictured gaggia grinder Ive had for less then a week now I modified as I was tired already of scooping the ground coffee from the hopper to the pf, seeing the spout on the ibertal gave me an idea.
As you can see from the photo, I took a piece of plastic cut a square hole in it, araldited a plumbing elbow to it some double sided vhb tape and it works perfectly as a spout for the pf!!
Whaaala - no more wasted coffee, of course the idea could use a little fine tuning but for a cost of a pack of araldite I now have a wastefree spouting pimped coffee grinder.
Sorry for the poor photo quality my camera doesnt like shooting at night.
Future improved additions to follow, cant wait till I get my paws ona classic!

Let me know what you think

    Cheers

    Steve

Wont you get a lot of coffee stuck in that relatively large neck of the spout?

surprisingly not, before I vhb taped it I used velcro and a lot of old coffee beans to test this theory.
the coffee tends to shoot out from the little square hole which is what led me to think that this just might work, even sticking my finger up the spout to check after a lot was put thru has surprisingly little grinds in there, not even enough to cover a 1 cent coin, the vibration of the grinder itself seems to aid in keeping everything moving.
But it is still a work in progress, so I might just modify it more until Im really happy, a clear elbow piece wouldve been nicer!

Ive added a joystick knob to the adjustment collar on the mini-e.

I had a PF keyring hanging off the original adjustment pin. Not sure how but this seemed to promote rust...? I had a new stainless steel pin made up and added the joystick knob. It is slightly longer than the original, thus giving greater leverage. Only downside is that a 360* rotation isnt possible ie the knob hits the top of the dosing chamber.
Apologies for the image quality. Just a quick phone photo.

Looks like a greatly excuted idea Sullo. Theres only one direction the grounds can go -- and that is the right one.

But for cosmetic purposes only, Id consider painting it to blend in. Black maybe.

yep the modification was "dremeld" a bit more today and painted black, photo to come tomorrow with better light, really looks like its part of it, now to make a tray to sit under it all and a pf holder and its almost complete till I can think of something else to do to it
