Moving on from grinder to service brewed & Espresso, Best sub $1000 Brewed Grinder
I was searching for a grinder to service both Espresso & Filter/Brewed Coffee (V60, Chemex etc.) It seems that this is not so much the issue. It is the changing of the grind settings that is the killer.
I picked up a used Mazzer Mini E from the forum and it works ok. Only complaint is the grind retention in the chute and cleaning. I'd love to remove the top burr and clean it weekly but I don't have the patience to dial it back in everytime. I have a feeling I'll be going to the Fausto next to compliment the R58 as I believe the adjustment is from the lower burr.
I usually have a few filter beans on the go so ideally I would get something to grind small individual doses with little retention, perhaps the HG-1?. I do however grind 60gr at a time through summer for the Bruer could get a bit tiring.
Any other suggestions? Any small deli style grinders that run a large burr?
I currently have a Ditting Kr804 which i have used for the purposes you have mentioned above. I now only use it as a bag grinder and use a macap as my Espresso grinder. I wouldnt say the ditting is small, however it will do everything you want without any grind retention.
I have posted a thread a week or so back looking to go to a Ek 43 and get rid of both my ditting and macap.
I can say from personal experience that the ditting is a great grinder, it may not be the most ergonomically for grinding unless its going into a bag. but other than that i couldnt fault it.
Can pick one up for less that $1000
I had a good look at Ditting and Bunn but both are up over the $3k mark and seem to be rare as hens teeth in the used market.

New they are in that range. I dont wish to turn this into a sales page but I am thinking of selling my Ditting grinder. As I mentioned I was looking at trying to get a EK 43 and get rid of my Ditting and Macap. Still a little unsure. If you wish to meg me and chat about all good, if not all cool also.
hi chris, is there a reason you stopped using the 804 for espresso and switched to the macap? did you not find it as tasty as the macap?
have you compared the ek to the 804 for espresso and filter? i ask as i have an 804 and was thinking about replacing the old cast burrs with steel ones as theyre pretty blunt now, but if they dont work for espresso then i might not. i was under the impression the ek and 804 would be very similar for espresso
