Mals rocky finds a new home

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Well I picked him up from the post office yesterday afternoon giddy as a kid in a lolly shop *:D

Had to go back to work for an hour and it killed me. Got him home and examined the packaging. It was packed very well.....and when I say well I mean an atomic bomb could have gone off and the hopper wouldnt have been scratched *;D Thanks again to Mal for packing my new baby so well, you never know how well they are going to be handled when going through the post.

The only problem I had was that work was fairly busy this week and I didnt get a chance to buy any beans - so here I am with a bright shiny Rocky sitting proudly on my kitchen bench and it cant even perform the duties it will do so well........aaaaahhhhhhhhh ;D ;D

Not to worry, I gave it a clean and polish, plugged him in turned him on just to hear him speak, and in the famous disney cartoon verse, I will hug him and cuddle him and call him George. Just kidding Rocky hasnt really got a name...yet.

Well this morning I remembered that I had some old beans in the cupboard! They are about 2 months old, but they were beans. My daughter and I fired Rocky up and ran him through his paces until the kitchen bench was awash in varying fineness of grinds. I didnt make any brews as I want my first cup to be FRESH!! It was fun though letting it rip. I was surprised at how quiet it was - I mean I dont really have anything to compare it to in a domestic sense, but I did think it would be louder for some reason.

So here I go boldly where many have gone before me, into the world of fresher coffee. I an indebted to Mal for a smooth transaction and all his help in getting the rocky down my way and for answering all of my questions - and all the questions that are sure to follow.

As a side point I preempted Rockys arrival and ordered a single walled basket for my machine. It arrived on Thursday and I pick it up from just down the raod from the roastery I am going to this morning. I am hoping this will improve my coffee even more!!!

Lastly in my post I do have 1 question. Is it possible to remove the PF holder on the Rocky? As I have a cheapy machine, my PF handle does not sit in the holder on the rocky so I cannot dose properly, but I cant seem to see how the PF holder comes out of the rocky? Maybe it doesnt. That would be a bummer, I would cope though.

Cheers Im off to grab some supplies *;)

    Gday Shannon,

Happy to hear that you are satisfied with your new toy ;D.... May Rocky give you many years of trouble-free service and wonderful brews 8-).

Regarding the PF holder, yes indeed it is removable quite easily. Its basically made from some kind of spring steel so all you have to do is to squeeze the two prongs together close to where they enter Rockys housing and pull towards you at the same time..... and out it will come. Im pretty sure Rocky can stand a bit of man-handling >:(, hes tough.

Wed love to hear how you progress along dialing in your grind with the new Basket and of course your impressions of the resulting brews in the cup. Happy brewing mate :),

    Gday TG and Mal

I have now used Rocky and posted how it went in the other thread - the one where I needed help!

Mal thanks for that, I actually gave rocky a bit of a tug and found the spring steel give in all the right places so thanks. It does mean though that I cant use that as an excuse for upgrading ;) Oh well one step at a time for the moment, I am on a steep enough learning curve as it is.

    Hey there Mal

I wasnt talking about the rockmeister.....we havent even been properly acquanted as yet.

I was meaning that if the PF holder didnt come out of rocky, then I might be able to start negotiations for a coffee machine that had a PF handle that fit the rockys holder ;) Something tells me though that wifey would have seen straight through me though. ;D ;D

Now wheres the on switch for rocky its coffee time!!
