The Atom 65 dial has reference numbers on the adjustment dial.
When I first got it I zeroed the burrs and put a small white dot on the grinder body which roughly lined up with an existing small divot in the body. I assume this divot is for referencing to the dial. At zero on the burrs my dot lines up with zero on the dial.
I have found the grind dial accurate and the grind settings repeatable.

I only have 3 different beans to choose from.....

Crikey.....I'm really not taking my craft seriously enough.
Although I'd hate an IT issue to render me coffee'less.

So far I've found that repeat orders/roasts of the same variety of bean require the same grind number, and it's independent of about anything except that occasionally I have a jar of beans sitting for more than three weeks, in which case I have to drop the grind number by about 1.

Not having the grind number recorded for each bean would be just crazy, I'd be right back where I was with the Rancilio Rocky - struggling to get correctly ground beans because the grinder just wasn't repeatably accurate. Two out of three cups were below par back then.

You get used to a higher standard of coffee very quickly, going back is just not an option...

As to IT issues crippling me, I have every grind number recorded on a slip of paper as well

A series of photos from YouTube showing the disassembly of the Niche Zero into its main components. May have been posted before but don't have time to go through the full thread to check.

Out of interest around what setting on the niche have you peeps being using for v60 pour over? I was just trying to match the grind size I typically use on a Lido ET (usually around 1+10), and seems I'd have to grind a bit above 50 on the niche to get a grind thats visually similar. I know there is variance between grinders etc, just curious where other people are at.

I've just purchased a Niche Zero from Chris at Talk Coffee. I'm very happy with the machine.

Chris was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping me decide which machine to buy.

The NZ has almost no retention, is faster than my Mazzer and has remarkable dosing consistency.

Anyone interested in buying a cheap Mazzer Mini E

Probably best to post this in the Coffee hardware for sale forum Phils, just noticed only 3 posts up, you may need to bump your count a bit to access it.

We could start a whole tread about gin! Love Four Pillars.

They did a special small batch Sydney gin, a Japanese one with a hint of wasabi and their Dry Island was great as well. I currently have a bottle of Sticky carpet on the go- not to mention about another 20 which we get to choose from!

Dry Island is my other favourite.

Closely followed by Applewood, Ten 10 and a new one for me. Prohibition.

Heads up for those that have been looking to purchase a Niche Zero, there is currently a 11% off coupon on ebay, that can be applied to Niche Zero listing from site sponsor Coffee-a-Roma's ebay store. $1299 after 11% off = $1156.
There is further potential 11% saving if you join a cash back program before purchase (deadlind is 10pm) - its not a site sponsor so I won't disclose the details here, anyone interested can PM me for details.

ps. I have this grinder and have had it for just over 1 year since release, althought I got it much cheaper as a backers from Indigogo, I would still recommend it for anyone who is looking for single dosing grinder. Hopefully with the discounts it will help those who are still on the fence

Hey, I like a keen price as much as the next bloke. But I bought mine from Talk Coffee to support a local small business and for technical support in case I need it one day.

    hi Phil,

    I share your thoughts too.

Coffee-A-Roma is a site sponsor of this great forum and I believe a local business in Victotria. I am sure they offer great aftersales support and I thought I'd share this bargain with fellow members.

    cheers

ps. If this post is inappropriate , I am sure Javaphil or Andy will remove it.

Now that the Niche Zero has been out for a couple of years, Iím wondering if anyone can comment on the long(ish)-term reliability of the DC motor?

@Coffee-A-Roma, have you had any warranty claims or performed repairs or part replacements related to the motor?

Iíve read all of the reviews, but their statements related to motor strength are speculative.

    Thank you!

Very keen on a NZ, would need to move my Eureka Atom for one.

Single dosing would be great for home!

The big issue with this is that offering an 11% discount on the 11 November has to be the height of distastefullness.

The real significance of 11:00 am on the 11th day of the 11th month is not just a numerical oddity but of Remembrance Day. This is observed not just to honour those who died or were injured in the First World War, but also those who have died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

To reduce the sacrifice and suffering of so many to some sordid commercial sale opportunity really has to be beyond the pale. Shame on them.

i remember some company announcing a 'fire sale' during bad bushfires a few years back. dunno if it was intentional, but everyone lost their s**t.

I know I'm replying to myself . But incase someone searches pour over + niche in the future, I narrowed down a setting of 65 as pretty much spot on for my likes (for a single cup V60). By 65 I mean imagine the scale continued directly after 50. I placed a mark at zero on a bit of masking tape while the original pointer is at 50. So basicaly its when the new mark points 15.

Hope that gets someone else near their typical ball park grind size without wasting too many beans.
