Luckily my HG-1 was previously owned by two fastidious Coffee Snobs and must have been built by the A team as I've not had any quality issues with mine.

I'm caught between my love for the quality the HG-1 in the cup, a realisation that hand grinding is hard yaka and a wife that demands silence and probably won't support too many more speculative grinder purchases before she puts her foot down.

Motorise the HG-1 or on sell it and try and buy something that is as good or better in the cup and keeps the wife happy.

PS yep you don't get that many opportunities to drop behove into a sentence - well played

    Cheers

    WUG2 Arrived Ok.

The WUG2 does not ship with a power cord. Prior to delivery the manufacturer Emailed with instructions to buy a PC power outlet (IEC320C13). In the event, I had a dead turbo oven with a power cord that did the trick, even though the part # didn't match.
Assembly was relatively uneventful (just the usual niggles) and she fired up first time. Set at 80 rpm (my hand cranking speed - give or take) she delivered a surprisingly superior shot. Is it possible that the consistent speed, which I couldn't achieve with hand cranking, has had a positive impact on grind quality? Either that or just variations due to poor technique - too early to tell.
Happy so far. Good thing too, because it's the only game in town - unless you want to build one from scratch.

Ps will be interesting to experiment with different speeds.

Ps 2 if reliability and longevity doesn't become an issue, would highly recommend. Only time will tell.

Ps 3 the finish is not up to HG1 standards, but then, what is? The industrial look is starting to grow on me.

    My New WUG2/HG-1 Setup

    End game (for now).Attachment 24323

Ps Caffeinator, googled "Moulin Coffee Grinder" and was inundated - a pic would clear it up. There are some beautiful old style Moulin hand grinders out there.

I think the HG-1 should be good mincing up stuff such as lamb brains and mincing meat too.

To quote John McEnroe, "You can't be serious."
