    Help Picking a New Grinder

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi Everyone
I Am looking to buy a new grinder. Looking at the rocket fausto as i have a rocket evoluzione machine.
Is there a better grinder for around the same price $1500 or Is the Fausto good value and great grinder for espresso based coffee drinks.
Ive been looking around at grinders and can only order Fausto online so feedback is much appreciated.

    Regards Michael

    Hi Michael,

The Fausto is a quality grinder and hard to fault. For significant improvement in grind quality you'd need to significantly increase the budget or switch to a manual grinder. There are others at a similar price point that are on par (Eureka Atom, Profitec T64, Compak E5OD, ECM Titan S64, Eureka Zenith) but you'll get different features and looks, so it's largely personal preference and getting hands on with as many as possible is the ideal scenario. Only being able to order the Fausto online makes that tricky but seeing some should give you an idea of any particular features matter to you, and if nothing stands out to you feature wise go for the shiny one

Considering it is before the espresso machine in the coffee making process, the grinder is way more important than the espresso machine (poor grinder = crap cuppa).

As usual for a CS site, expect a lot of different views. I admit to a certain bias (who doesn't) as I prefer grinders at home with a very even particle spread, very little ground retention and no clumping / static or other issues. My two picks are the Mahlkoenig Vario (about $800 these days I expect) or their EK43 (probably far north of $3500 now). I have never had a grinder "in the middle price range" (including other Mahlkoenig models) which can equal either of them in the cup.

For a cafe - Mazzer Major.

I've never personally used a more expensive grinder so I can't comment with any detail, but you'll need a pretty serious machine to fully utilise a $3k+ grinder

As a fellow rocket evo owner, I recently upgraded to a ek43s, working out pretty good so far. Custom hopper reduces the size quite a bit to fit in a home kitchen

i use my ek to grind for v60, french press, cold drip, and flair espresso. i daresay the flair gets a better shot out of it than any machine i've ever used professionally or domestically. holding out for the v1.3 decent though.
