    Non-espresso grinder advice please

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a grinder for my partner who is getting into specialty coffee, and would love to practice more at home. We're currently using aeropress and french press, but she'll soon be trying various filter methods, plus other things I don't understand. I'm getting over hand grinding so would appreciate powered recommendations. I'd like to keep the budget below $1000 if possible but interested to hear what people love for this purpose. I'd also prefer to buy retail in Melbourne.

    Thanks heaps for your help,

    JB

(we don't have an espresso machine so won't need that grind range)

You can get a new Forte with steel burrs for around 1K designed specifically for only brewing filter coffee, they punch well above their weight and you wont get a better filter grind unless you move into commercial bulk grinder territory.

Or if you can find a 2nd hand vario which has been looked after, petition the supplier of Forte for a set of the steel burrs or buy direct from USA.

Thanks Steve. It looks like Fortes are available in Melbourne with both sets of burrs included. Have you used these yourself for filter?

I have a Vario with steel burrs for several years. same burrs just less robust than the Forte.

The Atom has steel burrs, anyone know if it's good for filter? Or Forte and Vario more consistent and reliable?
