    Baratza Sette 270 vs 270Wi

I know there is differences between the non W and the Wi,but my question here is, has the non W version gotten the updated parts that were released in the Wi? I don't want to run into the issues that the W have been having, and I have seen alternative brewing, five senses etc sell both models. Thanks!

I would imagine they are running the old parts out in the base model machines. No idea how far along this road they are

    Hi FS,

I have owned the 270W for 20 months. I had an issue about 2months ago when the unit just stopped mid grind.

I contacted the agents( Five Senses) and asked if the repairs would be greater than $125 because if it was I would just buy a new unit.

They promptly contacted me and stated although it was out of warranty they would still fix it under warranty - I really appreciated that, so I then asked for a price to upgrade to 270Wi. To my delight they said they would cover that as well. So whatever the initial teething problems with this model, Five Senses have gone the extra mile to cover it, even out of warranty.

As for performance I been well satisfied as it is consistent in grind and weight. It does have a little retention but is easily cleaned or just grind 2-3 grams to clear state grounds.

Good luck with whatever you go with.

    Gordon.

Even the 270w has been amended along the way.

The newer the machine the slower and quieter they are. From memory the newest wi compared to the oldest w is about half the grind speed.

    Cheers

I reckon the company in China that makes them probably follows lean manufacturing practice, so there won't be any olds parts to use up.

Great to hear. I sent alternative brewing a message regardless but both say they have the 19:1 slower gearbox. It's only the Wi that say 'updated gearbox' in their specs, whereas the non W just says gearbox but has listed the identical to what the Wi says. I will just await to make sure before diving in. Still unsure if I should go the sette line or find something else!

    I can't decide either...
I am looking for low retention electronic grinder.
Can't decide if I go with Baratza Sette Wi, Baratza Vario or Eureka Mignon Specialita.

If you're getting a Vario get the Mahlkoenig.

I believe the obvious aesthetic difference between old and new is the portafilter holder, the too part that swings over. The old is just 1 little prong whereas the new model is a half moon shape instead. Hope that helps!
