Eureka Zenith over the Eureka Atom

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Firstly I'm a big fan of Eureka grinders. They have the easiest grind adjustment, easy to clean, easy access to the burrs, minimal clumping, easy to program timed doses, relatively quiet and you keep your grind setting after accessing the burrs. Anyway these two grinders are nearly identical in price with the Zenith being faster, more solidly built and in my view looks more elegant and professional. So why don't people buy the Zenith over the Atom? Why is the Atom more popular than the Zenith? What am I missing here? Is there any difference in functionality. I know the Atom is very quiet but that isn't a deal breaker for me and I'm not interested in single dosing.
Any Zenith owners out there who could chime in here.

I questioned this same thing when i came to buy mine. I own the Zenith. I cant really say what made me choose it over the smaller Atom. Yes its a little faster however i liked the look of both. Whatever my reason was I can say i happy with my selection. Mine hasn't missed a beat and had i Have known prior to going through 3-4 other types of grinders how good the Eureka range was i would have gone with one in the first place.

I've had times when i have needed to dose a lot of shots, I cant comment about the Atom, but what I can say about the Zenith is its quick and its dose and grind consistency is great. For someone at home like myself it is a bit larger than the Atom, but I have to smaller streamlined hopper so it fits in the kitchen well.

    Cheers,

    Chris

The Atom is just that little bit better for most domestic situations Iím guessing. Itís slightly smaller, slightly quieter, not much slower and has lower retention (by quite a bit based on some testing Iíve seen). I also really like the look of the Zenith and almost bought one a while back. I do however think itís at that point in the Eureka range where they really are starting to cater purely for commercial use.

Chris, I appreciated you chiming in here. As an owner can you expand on Leroy's statement about having a fair bit more grind retention than the Atom. How much do you purge after adjustments or the beginning of the day. "Bad" grind retention is a concern
    Thanks
    John

PS according to this page its only 3.5 grams and the video says its 6.5gms

It grinds quick, so I only purge for a second if that. I've never really worried about retention. I dont want to sound wasteful, but i roast my own coffee so i'm never short of it. that said i believe when i was looking at buying one grind retention on these where similar to others in its range.

I sometimes dont grind through the old stuff. the other option which i use on these at times is instead of filling up the hopper, weight out the coffee you want at the time and grind through. This is what i do and most of the time if i weight out 20g i get 20g or close enough too. That way when you come to use it next you dont have to clear the coffee for the next shot. My way of not wasting coffee.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Barri, I too am a fan of Eureka and owned both the Zenith 65e and Atom concurrently, but let the Zenith go due to a lack of bench space and the considerably quieter and slower operation of the Atom.

I have bench space, don't care about noise and are happier with a faster grinder and better looks then maybe the zenith is the better choice.
