Mazzer Super Jolly refurb - Roger

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Ok so since Ive collected a few more i wanted to get one of these commercials an rebuild strip it right down an maybe paint it some Ironman red
And considering it needs a good clean ill completely dismantle the doser and rebuild it and take pics that might help anyone else interested in this.
So next victim supper jolly roger!
Wait theres its new name Roger!

Id better find an exploded diagram for the doser, last time i did that it ended up being a garden fertiliser doser

    G’day Sullo,

I’ve just given a Super Jolly a tidy up and doserless conversion. I’m in Melbourne’s delightful outer east if you need any doser bits. Have a look at my PIF post for details and a pic.

    Hey mtee,
Any chance you could show me a pic of what you did for doserless conversion? I'm doing the exact same thing right now, there's been some creative ideas i've seen but I haven't stuck to a design yet, the more the merrier.

Nevermind, I just saw it through your other post. Would you share how you cut the funnel for the doser hole?

    Hi,
I used the rear section of the doser body to cover the motor of the grinder, so it was already cut and able to sit over the funnel to mark the hole.
I drilled holes in each corner and used an angle grinder to cut the straight lines, aiming for the outer edges of the holes.
From memory, I stopped a little short with the grinder and made the last part of the cut with a bare hacksaw blade.
Then I cleaned up the edges with a file. The hardest part was drilling the holes, the stainless steel is pretty tough. I clamped a round piece of timber in the vice so I could sit the funnel on it and use a bit of pressure while drilling and pre-marked them with a punch.

I also enlarged the outlet of the funnel with the angle grinder and tidied up the cut on a belt linisher, finishing off with sandpaper.

One thing to look out for- the funnel has a lip around the top. With the doser removed, you’ll see a ‘step’ between the chute and the adjustment collar. The lip sits in there nicely.

Apart from that, it’s all pretty straightforward.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

No worries... you’ll get it done with basic hand tools and a bit of care, extra gear just makes it quicker and easier.

The chute hole probably took me 10 minutes, enlarging the bottom of the funnel about 5. It’s tough to drill, but not too difficult to file.

The funnel lid was the difficult part, I used some scrap 2.5mm thick stainless steel and it took waaay too long to make. Don’t know if the doser lid will fit, mine was missing.

There’s info out there. The poms like this mod, so have a look at the UK forums.

    Removing the doser

So my xmas public service announcement is how to remove a doser from a super jolly roger,
Firstly, if you remove screws from the portafilter handle, the bolts are inside, remember this, otherwise youll HAVE to remove either doser or bottom plate to retrieve them.

So to aid someone else not having to figure this out, like i spent all of 17mins figuring out,
Theres two screws at the top of the doser

An two inside at the bottom closest to the body,
Be mindful of this cause if you dont know itll fall down an if your wearing your irish safety boots as i was, it will fall forward onto your feets!

You can now remove doser from affected area for further dismantling

Pics to follow, an no not of my sore feets....

    Hi Sullo,
Question, if I may: How do you post your full sized pictures? Mine always post minimised and need to be clicked on (to view full sized).

    Ps thanks in advance.

And by doing this you virtually guarantee that your image(s) will disappear from your post(s) down the road when the hosting site shuts down, changes its TOS, or changes its address format. Over the years CS has been around every image hosting site has done one or more of these things which is why so many pictures have gone missing from posts and why we strongly recommend you upload your images to CS. That way they are hosted locally and don't go missing. Plus many users are still bandwidth challenged which is why images are shown as thumbnails in posts.

    Quicky update
so the doser was completely dismantled and some parts required soaking in caffetto and other cleaners and reassembly using fs grease

once that was completed, dismantled the burr set area which had a buttload of crap buildup requiring not only caffetto soaking (minimal for aluminium parts, its bad for them I believe) thorough rinsing drying

completed burrset and doser reinstalled, I had the wiring checked by a sparky after finally figuring how to remove baseplate with four feet screws and one torx screw, saw all the wiring figured get it checked for safety while there,
completed reassembly, I was keen on repainting the casing but with crap in the air heat etc and after manual cleaning of the casing it came up pretty clean so that might be done later if I keep this long term

and jolly roger is ready to sail again, now to remember to roast after I found zero, adjust test and most importantly taste!
well not by licking the grinder, I do like it but not THAT much

    so far job completed
