Not another guy asking about grinder choice ?!
Thanks to everyone who posts on this site, i've been learning a lot about coffee! I now want to get my own espresso machine and grinder set up for home use.
We drink about 4 cups of milk coffees a day between us, and like most people want the ability to do a few more at a time when entertaining.
I'm looking for a good quality grinder, which is why i'm posting.
My requirements (in addition to producing good quality espresso of course) are (in order of importance):
1) Easy to use. Must be simple, so that a guest could figure it out! So i'd like to be able to have the dosing pre-programmed. We would mostly be drinking double shots.
2) Quiet (little one in the house)
4) Compact size
My budget is in the $600-800 range.
In case you're wondering what espresso machine i'm pairing it with, i haven't fully decided but i'm thinking of going for the Breville Dual Boiler (why ?! you may ask - well i think as a noob it seems like a simple place to start, hopefully it will last a few years and i can learn more about coffee making and then get a HEX machine in a few years' time).
I've been looking at a few models on line:
1) Lelit PL71
2) Lelit PL44MMT (a bit cheaper than my price range, would it still be good ?)
3) Baratza Sette 270Wi (from what i can tell people think it's a bit noisy?)
4) Compak K3 touch advanced OD
5) Eureka Mignon Silenzio
Anyway, i'd certainly appreciate any opinions or advice you'd like to share.
The Silenzio is the only one on your list that's actually quiet. If you can stretch the budget to the Specialita it'll be a bit easier for you and guests to use. That'd be my pick.
What l3n said. Silenzio and then daylight for your brief...

Based on your advice i've narrowed it down to three options:
1) Lelit PL71 (benefit - price)
2) Lelit PL72 (benefit - LCD display)
3) Eureka Mignon Specialita
I think the Lelit's grind much faster than the Eureka which is a big plus.
Does anyone have any thoughts on any of these models? Good or bad experiences?
The Specialita will hold value better as it is so popular.

Only thing I've done is use plastidip on the portafilter holder to stop it scratching the baskets - I think someone else had posted about it this week as well. I don't know why they wouldn't smooth off the edges, but plastidip was fairly cheap and easy fix to do myself. I think some other grinders/brands also have this issue, so could be the same for the others.
I can't speak to the Lelit's but I don't have any regrets buying the specialita.
