    How to use a doser

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I am nearly there in getting a Mazzer.
My one question is, how do you go with only grinding enough beans for x1 shot. The doser chamber looks so big.
Does it all come out, or will some stay in the chamber?
    Thanks once again
    Andrew

    Yes it all comes out.

Just measure enough beans for your 1 shot and grind them.
You should find that half a dozen thwacks on the dosing lever should clear out the doser and fill the basket.

Thats exactly what I do with my Macap.

Hmm, beg to differ TG. For it all to come out you would need to sweep out the throat from the grinder, dust of the doser chamber, and maybe modify the sweeping arms for it all to come out.

Depends how meticulous you are. ;)

A vacuum cleaner close by helps a lot, better to lose a little than contaminate the next one....... works for me.

I am meticulous and do brush the grinds from the chute before dosing.

The Macap gives most of what I put in back.

Now lets not confuse Andrew by complicating this too much to begin with.
He asked a simple question and I gave him the simple answer.

    Hes talking Mazzer not Sunbeam.

The meticulousness of coffee snobs was not being debated here, neither were the pros and cons of doser versus doserless.

The sweeps on a mini are slightly subpar. Ive modded mine with a piece of a takeaway box lid. Cut it down to size, and inserted it between the two parts that make up the sweep. Very clean sweep every time. Also lasts longer than the tape sweep mod.

Are we having a bad day then? no one mentioned sunbeam, I wouldnt need to use a vacuum on my sunbeam but I do on my Gino Rossis at the end of the day.

    Thanks for the advice.
Currently I own a Sunbeam 4080, so anything can be cleaner than these.
Never having used a doser, was unsure about the process. Wasnt sure if the grinds get all caught up in the doser chamber.
    Regards

    Gday Andrew,
some of the grinds do get stuck in the dosing chamber, hence the references to doser modding. A method that I use and have found to be effective is to use a small brush, like a pastry or paint brush, when Im thwacking the doser. I put the brush bristles down in between the doser arms and thwack away, then move it back to the start and do it again, although its usually clean after one round.
    Enjoy.

Not having a bad day Ray, just being the auditor that I am.

I mentioned Sunbeam to emphasise that he was talking about a Mazzer and to steer people back to the original question. :P
