The K3 elite looks a good option. I was considering it when upgrading last year.

There was a bit of an issue with which type of finish was available in AU last year. Most people (including myself) seem to prefer the silver, but the stock being made available in a lot of cases appeared to be the champagne finish.

I believe that there are now silver ones around again.

I personally have a Macap M5 which is in the same ballpark price range and I have been very happy with it.

Have a chat to one of the sponsors and see what is in stock etc.

    Agreed Brett,

the K3E is a terrific grinder and excellent value...

For the home user (CSer), there are some pros and cons which should be taken into consideration...

Pros[*]Excellent sweep of dosing chamber- I think its the best in the business...[*]Terrific grind consistency- equal to Mazzer/Macap[*]Minimal left throw[*]Now available in Platinum- read silver [*]Excellent pricing

Cons:[*]Permanently attached tamper blocks view of portafilter[*]Extremely difficult (nigh impossible) to brush out grinder throat as the auto-cutout flap blocks access

I hope to one day see a K3Geek grinder- basically a WBC style K3 without tamper or auto-cutout and in platinum or better still, polished aluminium.

I believe that a K3Geek would tick all of the CSer desirable feature boxes and become the doser grinder of choice for us. This grinder could conceivably sell at a little under $600.

I was lucky enough to get a second hand Compak K3 Elite in the Titanium (with polished aluminium doser) in new condition in November 07. *
I still have my EM0480 and I would say the sound level of the K3E is close to on par with EM0480 but at a lower pitch.
I love the K3E heavy duty design, clean lines and function.
I can vouch the doser chamber sweeps very cleanly.
