help to find a grinder for Faema E98 s1

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Having just upgraded from a Via Venezia to the Faema I am now faced with having to get a grinder to match as my delonghi g100 doesnt seem up to the job despite having tweeked it a little. Ive pored through the website but am still in a quandry as to whether to get an interim grinder like the emo480 and wait until I can afford something more ideal or push the budget and go a little higher and get something like the rocky or hang in there until something I can afford comes up 2nd hand. Any thoughts or opinions gratefully received.

    Thanks

Welcome to the Faema E98 club! :) (just got one myself)
A number of forum members have picked up some of these machines recently. Has there been a fire sale or something on them recently? ;D

In my opinion, for what its worth, would be that the EM0480 wouldnt really be good enough. The Rocky would be pretty much the bare minimum. I think you should ideally be looking at something of Mazzer Mini, or better, class of machine. But as it sounds like you may not be able to afford something like that now, perhaps you could look at something 2nd hand, maybe something like a Mazzer Super Jolly, as they would come up for sale fairly regularly. Just stick a new set of burrs in it and youd be good to go!

    regards,
    Bill

    Thanks for the welcome Bill.

The people I bought it off said they had won it in a promotion but didnt have the bench space to keep it. They had had it for 5 months but it looked like it hadnt been used much.My wife was a bit put off by the size but is more forgiving since she has had a coffee from it.

There is a new Super Jolly(with warranty) on ebay for half price but it would be just too large for our kitchen.

You need a small commercial grinder, the minimum being the Rocky (its Rancilios small commercial grinder placed into a different body & marketed as a domestic grinder).

Dont waste your money on domestic "interim" grinders, all that does is add the cost of the interim grinder to whatever you pay down the track on the right grinder, whereas if you have a used Rocky it will hold its value well on resale after having done a good job for you in the meantime anyway.

If you were buying new the best small commercial units are Macap M5 or Mazzer Mini, but of course there are others that cost a little less with compromises (plastic bodies, plastic doser unts etc).

If you happen upon any second hand commercial grinder, your search ends there almost irrespective of brand and model. The common ones found in our market are macap, mazzer & gino rossi, followed many others but the point being, just about any commercial grinder in good condition will be the correct matched grinder for your machine and subject to condition, will do the right job.

    Welcome Tuffr

Enjoy your new Faema.. Im sure you do already. I have just got one *these same machines... got mine on EvilBay, *but it is 2 years old... im getting used to it still but Im loving it. *

I have matched mine with an Ascaso I-mini but am a little frustrated by it.(mess and clumping and retained grounds in chute). *I am in the process of acquiring an older LaCimbali Junior. *You might consider the LaCimbali Cadet that PeterP has for sale.

    Regards Robert

Too large? In height do you mean? You know you can get shorter bean hoppers for them. Apparently the Mazzer Mini hopper will fit the Super Jolly, and Ive seen an even shorter one than that for sale somewhere.

Yep, the LaCimbali would be a great match for it.
